The nice thing is that Thunderbolt is backwards compatible with firewire by using the $30 Apple tbolt>firewire adapter. Thunderbolt has 12x the capacity/bandwidth of firewire800 so this is not a problem.Randyman... wrote:FW is quickly becoming obsolete...

SSD's aren't magic and you could still run into the problem of audio buffers overrunning if the OS, services or apps keep making disk calls. Your goal is the smooth, uninterrupted streaming of all data all the time. Best efficiency solution: OS, apps and plugins on boot drive Sample libraries on a s...

Request: Cover for #88 Mar/April 2012...
Guys, is there ANY way to get a jpeg of the artwork used for the bunny cover for issue #88??
My wife is a serious rabbit fan (we had one a few years ago) and it would score me major points if I could print that out and hang it in my studio....

You can probably just look around at what builders are offering, and see what components they are using. ^THIS. The companies that build audio computers generally know what works and keeps their customers from coming back at them in mobs with pitchforks and tar and feathers. That said, you're not g...

Still using a built-in soundcard?? Unfortunately, those are made with less than 50-cents worth of chips for beeps, boops and light gaming (not to mention cheapness for the manufacturer) and NOT quality music production. The poor hardware and drivers that run the soundcard produce latency or delays i...

It's the sort of thing you just shouldn't worry about (especially from what is now the largest company in the country with more free cash than the US government.) There's no full guarantee that Steinberger/Cubase or Avid/Protools or Cakewalk or any other company will still be here next year or five ...

I should have said before (but my hands are giving me problems so my typing is limited to 2 fingers) I got an HP inkjet last year and the included software was HORRIBLE. I'm an old graphics guy and do all my work in Photoshop and Freehand/Illustrator. Acoustica is much easier to bring in graphics an...

Do yourself a BIG favor and stay away from usb mics and adapters. They are basically made for PODCASTING (radio chat shows), not music recording. The analog-to-digital converters in their mini-soundcard are mediocre for music. The poor monitoring in them will give you fits trying to overdub new trac...
