As per a tip in that recent thread, I tried stacking cinder blocks and that seems quickest, easiest, and cheapest (ten for about sixteen, seventeen bucks.)

I'd say try them with confidence. I've used them in my guitars as well as those of my friends with no complaints.

I use a MXL V63 on kick about a foot or so away, 45 degree axis off to the side of the head. With a small hole in the resonant head it gets just enough click to suit me. Without the hole it's a little too indistinct.

Sounds good man. I'm no great mixer, just another musician muddling through the recording processes. I liked what I heard and let it run through the whole thing, good stuff! Kind of Dungen-esque.

I have a Frostwave Ring Mod that does weird extremely well, but it was a bit pricy. I also got a nice surprise when I picked up a Digitech Bass Synth/Wah pedal for pretty cheap, well worth checking out.

I'm using one as the Mid in M/S drum overheads. Seems well suited in that task, I've got the low-cut engaged.
