I like 'em.. Especially for the price. I bought mine like 3 years ago and they were not as cheap as they are now. I've mixed tons of stuff on them, of course always checking my mixes with my car stereo, head phones, and another set of monitors. Now that I'm used to them and the things they leave out...

seriously. It's not a secret, or a technique, it's a mix with effects.

Check out Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings for another great sounding retro soul record. http://www.daptonerecords.com/sharonjonesandthedapkings.html From what I've heard of the new Bettye LaVette (with the Drive By Truckers) it's an awesome retro recording too. [<|>] Oh snap Betty Lavette with Drive...

TC Helicon Voice Create Too Much Feedback Live Situations

So we're trying to make a decision on using the TC Helicon Voice Create in Live situations. I know this isn't really a recording application but figured you guys would have lots of experience, hints, ideas about this as well. The problem is that there is a ton of feedback when we use any of the tran...

i'm mister critical, keep that in mind. to me, there's no low end rumble or oomph. there's kick and snare attack, but there's no 'boom' or 'thwack'. does that make sense? sometimes those overloaded distorted guitar sounds are so crunched it's all a garble down there anyways, and it's kinda what the...

Thanks man! That's quite a compliment from the likes of you! I checked Ebay to no avail for either the Intersound or the Sound Workshop... So I'll keep my eyes peeled for either... I'm really curious about the possibilities of the filters on the Intersound. We trying to get some gear together to att...

On all the dub stuff I have done, we have used all the springs I have collected, like a Sound workshop stereo spring, an intersound spring, a peavey valverb, the spring in the korg stage echo, and many others. For spring crashes we have just used an amp, with a direct out, so we can smack it around...

Dub reverb? Fisher k10 space expander? Has anyone used these

I'm looking for a good spring reverb unit... I know that both King Tubby and Lee Perry used a custom version of a Fisher k10 spaceexpander (which I heard is the same reverb out of a hammond b3 w/reverb) Does anyone know of any other spring reverb box that sounds close? How about That Fostex 3180? Ca...

I keep trying them on varying different kick drums/players, and I just can't seem to get it to operate well on its own. I think it maybe due to the very slow Transient response, even with a very fast pre-amp it's still way to slow to catch the beater, even on slower tunes. Bummed me out because tha...

by live... I meant tracking the band live in the studio not a live show recoding... Definetly no blame on the Asst. engineer... She rocked it that day! Mostly just curious about other people's experience with the mic in that capacity... and admiting my mistake at not listening to the placement... an...

and, not to be a jerk, how did you make it though a session without listening to the kick drum and making sure it sounded ok? were you just gonna fix it in the mix? john No... actually I was pulling triple, quadruple duty... Producing, writing, arranging, financing, and It was a dry run... testing ...

Has anyone ever used a EV re 20 on kick drum...?

The assistant engineer set up a EV RE20 for a kick drum mic on a session I did recently... In the rush of the day I somehow forgot to look/listen to the mic selection and placement (we were recording an 8 piece band with a four person horn sectio my attention was on horns at the time... I really don...
