Tracks have to be identical to work, same EQ, effects, volume etc, i take it you played with the volume? Let me elaborate... I have 2 stereo tracks. One is the full mix (guitar, bass, drums, vocals) The other is just guitar and bass from that full track. I tried the Invert Phase plugin on the latte...

Inverting phase to cancel instruments
ok, so I have the Red Hot Chili Peppers new(-ish) CD, Stadium Arcadium, as well as a version with just the guitar and bass tracks. What I'm trying to is isolate the drums and vocals by inverting the phase of the guitar/bass track, but I can't get it to work. How can I accomplish this? I'm using DP 5...

Cleaning up tracks that have overloaded the input
I have an old project in DP that i tried to resurrect, and some tracks (due to an error on my part) were recorded at too high a level, overloading the input, and creating considerable noise on playback. Any ideas on a clever implementation of filters and/or plugins (soundsoap wasnt too effective, bu...

I gotcha...i thought it was for performance purposes. The Shure E3's are about $99 and are great. E5's are unbelievable.

Re: iBook recording q's
I bought the iMic for my ibook...its great, small, and handy, but you have to have watch your levels going into the mic and going into the computer, as well, or any mic will distort real fast. Actually, the built in mic isnt too bad...ive used it many times to just quickly record some ideas on an ac...

Re: How do you record an acoustic?
I generally use stereo, but I have used this successfully in mono... Neumann KM-140 (SDC, but an LDC has worked as well...) pointed at the spot where the neck of the guitar meets the body, about 6 inches from the guitar. Move according to how much room you want in the mix. For more ambience and low ...

*THINKING* about getting into ProTools soon...
Ok, I am thinking about investing in an MBox in the near future. I am aware of the 2 channel limitations that entail, but am persuaded by the versatility of PT. I own a Roland Digital 8 Track (VS-840GX, for what its worth) and i know i can record 4 tracks to disk there, and another 2 with an MBox. M...

Re: Stereo Micing Techniques for Gtr Amps.
I've gotten great results using a Sennheiser 421 and a Neumann KM-140.
I put both about a 45 dergee angle pointed toward the center of the speaker, with the 140 maybe 3-4 inches farther back than the 421...change the bass control on the 421 for low end, and move the 140 closer for more highs...

DI Bass
DI Keys
1. 57 or 421 on Guitar (depends on style...)
2. (2) Neumann KMi 84 (vintage) Drum OH Stereo Pair
3. Beta 52 Kick
4. 57 Snare
5. Neumann 105 Vocals
I could get it all done with that...

Re: Interface Advice...
I don't have a lot of cash to spend. I am fortunate enough to have a summer job at a professional audio/video rental company, and am able to rent high-end mics/pres/compressors occasionally. Unfortunately, they are more show oriented, and less studio oriented, and do not specialize in pres/inerfaces...

Interface Advice...
I own an Apple iBook 14"/640MB/933 mhz, and do a lot of multitracking in the box and on a Roland DAW...I use the laptop and the DAW at the same time, but due to limited inputs on my current interface and limitations to the DAW, can only record 6 tracks at a time... I have been looking into the Preso...

Re: need help recording sound effects of cars
I use a Tascam DAP-1 DAT recorder. It's quite a few years old and models like it can probably be rented for cheap. I have used a variety of mics with it--I like the sony VP-88 as it's a single-point stereo mic and therefore much easier to set up than multiple mics, but I also got some really nice r...

Re: small-diaphragm condenser microphones
If you can afford it, the Neumann KM-140 is the way to go...factory matched as far as im concerned, is not a tremendous necessity, at least for what i have had to do so far (mid fi-high fi projects)...but thats just my $.02...
