Digidesign C24 with Argosy Desk

I'm "upgrading" from my protools rig to an all analog setup. The first thing I need to get rid of is my nearly new C24. I bought it brand new in june and have only used it on a handful of mixes. I'm asking $8000 for both the C24 and and the argosy desk it's mounted in but I might entertain other off...

DB25 and Phantom Power Issues.

I'm using my new Onyx 800R for the optical inputs on my 002. I wired the pre inputs up to my patchbay with a D-Sub to TRS snake. The D-Sub doesn't seem to pass phantom power. Is there any explanation for this? I suppose I could just get a Male XLR to TRS Snake, but I'd like to use the D-Sub since I ...

Mac Pro and Pro Tools LE Please Help!

I've been using LE Version 7.0 on an old G4 tower for a good long while now. I just got my grubby little hands on a shiny new quad core Mac Pro and I'm very excited. But alas, some problems have begun to rear their ugly little heads. First off, I'm still running 7.0, and I know that Leopard has had ...

Re: Possibly moving to Portland

You're the 2nd person recently that's wanted to move from MN to OR. I can't speak about OR, but why are you trying to bail out of MN? I've lived in the midwest for too damn long. The winters are really getting to me. I think Portland's slightly milder climate could do me some good. The cheap cost o...

Possibly moving to Portland

Oregon that is... I'm in love with the city really. I've even convinced my girlfriend that this is the place to be. The only thing that has me worried is my job. I've got a pretty sweet in-house engineering job here and I'm just curious how the audio "scene" is in Portland. Would freelancing be the ...

Have been recording and comping vocals for the last 12 hours for a band called Tilly and the Wall. They are pretty cool.
Wild like children was a pretty kick ass record.

the hardest thing about engineering professionally...

is convincing people they need me at all, and what I do is still relevant. It seems that every single day I'm faced with a new client who is thinking something along the lines of "yeah, this studio is cool. it has some premium gear and it WOULD be nice to be able to track stuff live but... why not j...

I was browsing the Electrical Audio site the other day and I noticed that Steve Albini charges $650 a day, and the Studio A at Electrical is only $600 a day. But I guess when you're Steve Albini you can do that.

I was told a while back that there may have been some loss when using "bounce to disk". I never knew if it was true but ever since then I got in the habit of doing my own bounce by recording my 2 mix down to a stereo track and just grabbing the actual file from the audio files folder inside the sess...

Tuning... and know-how

There's nothing quite like recording a drummer who really, and I mean REALLY, knows how to tune their kit. I worked with a drummer this morning who may have had some of the best sounding toms I've ever heard. Now if only I could work with Glenn Kotche......

That's actually where most of my freelance work came from. I recorded a band for free, soon after that album came out they broke up. Out of that band came 5 new projects, all of which wanted to work with me. They all paid me after that, which was fine with me. The problem now is, our new space is eq...

Drumming Up Business

I've been doing the freelance thing here and there for a while now. Nothing too full time, it's been mostly on the side in order for me to get some more experience, a working knowledge to apply to the theoretical knowledge I got in school (yes, i admit it, i went to audio school...). Now, against my...
