Well yes. Did you think otherwise? It (and Sibelius) isn't meant to be a performance sequencer, it's a score publisher with playback.

I'm all for getting away from Mac. But USB interfaces are now better than that. For instance, http://www.rme-audio.de/products_fireface_ufx.php

Nothing. Some distortions will be added by going to tape. Some people like these distortions.

I expect you'll find a way to bodge this track into acceptability! But next time, don't forget to monitor while recording. This should have been sorted out after the first take, by modifing either your mic positions or the performance.

starbearer76, SSDs are awesome and I would highly recommend them, just not for the reason you mentioned. I have an SSD in my laptop, and it makes a huge, easily noticeable difference in how fast the computer is. Programs will certainly load faster. Apart for saving a few seconds at that stage, do y...

Metering can help. Looking at the waveform can help too. A "denser" wave picture will sound louder. Unfortunately, some of your backing tracks may have been heavily compressed, others may have more natural dynamics. It can be difficult to UN-compress a track. You may feel that compressing a natural ...

Re: UAD now with Firewire. interesting....

... at least there is an option for those of us with iMacs and no PCI option. Yeah, I'm running an imac too so this seems pretty cool. I'd love to hear from somebody with an imac who has been using one of these. That one Firewire port can handle just so much. If you want an expandable system, maybe...

I've heard very varied reports about the performance of these, has anyone used them for recording 16+ tracks? People use them as system drives. OS and programs load satisfyingly quickly. Once loaded, it's difficult to see how there would be any effect on how the application actually RUNS What if th...

If you're on a budget, does it HAVE to be a new computer? Why not the one you're reading this message on? There's also the point that you know you have an obsolete system. Money spent on propping it up is wasted money. Perhaps you just HAVE to find some more cash from somewhere. Is eating really nec...

On the practical level, I can't seem to get output from an application that is not my DAW to record into my DAW, without going through analog. Its about the only negative thing I've realy experienced on Win7. I am presuming that it is because my sound card manufacturer is writing DRM-compliant driv...

Re: The "I've Upgrade to Pro Tools" thread -- Gene

I've been a Cubase user for years and migrated from Cubase 5.5 (Windows) to Pro Tools LE 8.04 (Windows). So far the experience has been almost totally positive. I'm working out the following things: -Looking for a good replacement for Reverence and -Trying to figure out how to survive without VariA...

Figure that sound travels a approximately 1 foot per ms. 4ms latency is what you get when you play a guitar standing 4 feet from your amp. You aren't going to notice it. Once you start getting above 20ms, it starts getting pretty noticeable. Yeah. But it doesn't work quite like that when both signa...

How's performance if you record to the internal drive? Forget the numbers, just give it a try. Maybe you've got enough internal space for tracking, dump all but the current project to an external drive for storage.

You can't expect miracles from a laptop computer.
