cheap cymbals will sound their worst in a bad room Yeah, don't know what your room looks like now, but your money might be better spent on some good rigid fibreglass, fabric, and a bit of lumber to bang up a cloud and some gobos. That and trying, for what it's worth, to get the drummers to hit the ...

I expect this means the death of cards within the next few years, and of non-native audio processing. The track and plugin count on my macbook already seems virtually insatiable, and this thing has got to be an order of magnitude beyond that. I think if programmers can start taking advantage of GPUs...

I was going to ask if anyone's coding audio software to take advantage of these GPUs that are in everything, but apparently the convolution reverb I've been using the last few months does that:

Those records etched in gold on the Voyager probes might outlive our solar system. Even if you can't take advantage of the noncorrosive properties of the vacuum of deep space, a solid gold phonograph record is probably a good bet for really long term preservation.

This makes me want buy some cheap cymbals and go nuts. Yeah, why would I want to pay someone else to have all the fun? There's a great trick I didn't see in that video, that I first saw Dylan van der Schyff doing at a show years ago. He would grip a drum stick about an inch from the tip, like a pen...

Massey Tapehead for VST

For real this time! With more to follow. This plugin could be the single greatest thing that happened to my drum sounds. When I think about it, Massey's plugs might be the only thing keeping me in Pro Tools. When the rest of these get ported I'll probably be switching to Reaper, if it's as good as i...

Sorry I missed this earlier. Thanks for the comment! Since it's a pretty small, shitty sounding space, and we were tracking everything except the vocals live, the drums were surrounded by gobos, which helps keep the high end under control I think. Most of the drum sound is from a spaced pair of Joly...

Thee AHs AHttack! My favourite band recording so far.

Just wanted to share this since it's the first project I've done that's made it on to vinyl, and the band recording I'm most proud of to date. Thee Ahs are a terrific young pop band from Vancouver, BC. My studio partner and I recorded and mixed them in our tiny space in a crumbling brick building in...

I can't express how stoked I was when I got that news. This might become the only compressor I ever use.
