He calls it the "wild card" mic. His prefers an SM58 over the 441 for his "wild card" duties. Guess I'll try that ...

I'd love to have one someday. I can think of one female vocalist I work with that it would probably shine on. (Read: Stevie Nicks-esque tone.)

I'm wanting to do that Tchad Blake 441 -> Level-Loc thing. I know he uses the 441 because it has a fair amount of proximity and it's super-cardioid.

Anyone know of some less expensive alternatives to the 441 ($900)? Preferably in the $100-$200 range.

@rhythmranch that looks like the way to do it. Attach the mic with hair-ties inside the PVC and then find a way to mount the PVC.

I've been experimenting with mechanical filters at the house and have more of a practical question about them. How do you mount them on a mic stand? For example, I bought a 2' piece of PVC that a 57 sticks in perfectly and I want to be able to point it at a sound source. How do I get that sucker on ...

Thanks everyone, I received my reflexion filter in the mail and will be trying that out. I'm going to have to get creative with the furniture and packing blankets for the rest because I can't install anything. Great suggestions so far though!
