We purchased Equator D5s to use in the field, and ended up installing them in a rough mixing/editing room. Truly incredible, for the price. The imaging holds its head up with the best of them. If only Equator produced a proprietary sub? One can dream.
Best.

I think you are being victimized by an issue some call 'stiction.' The binder in the tape has become sticky, and it and much of the magnetic material is applying itself to everything in your machine that the tape touches. It is very sticky. You must clean every place in the machine the tape has touc...

Hi, Mike. This is an early to mid 70s deck from Sony that was part of their 300 series. By the time the 366 saw the light of day, the 300 series had been around for quite some time, and was very successful. These units used one motor, only. Instead of a supply reel motor, a take-up reel motor, and a...

The A-1230 is a consumer quality 2 channel quarter track machine. Channels 1 and 3 play a stereophonic program on the first pass of the tape, from supply reel to take-up reel. Turn the tape over and play it back from the take-up reel onto the supply reel, and tracks 4 and 2 play. You will not get fo...

We use a sub with our two sets of main nearfields. Using a monitor controller normally gives one the option of monitoring with or without the sub. After ensuring the best acoustics for the room, there are a number of issues concerning inclusion of the sub, that define its effectiveness. In no partic...

I will admit that I was extremely fortunate in the purchase of my Debut III. I had an old Bang & Olufsen 8000 Series table, plus two cartridges, that I had bought, very used. I was never fond of it. The Project dealer had a buyer for that particular model, and traded me a Ferrari red Project Debut I...

Please forgive me for not answering your question precisely as you have asked it. For $200, including cartridge, you will really not get a 'better' player. May I humbly suggest the Project Debut series... I have their least expensive model - with cartridge: $300, street. Used ones are sometimes avai...

Norsehorse makes a good point. I recorded a large children's choir project in the last year. The organization of the 2 sessions was superb, right down to 'down' time and food for the kids - with enough parental supervision to make it all work. However, we never discussed the sound of the final desir...

I underline the use of good quality SDC mics as a good place to start. However, because of gear malfunction, we recorded one really fine project with a pair of AT3035 LDCs, and the project worked, on a lot of levels... I highly suggest that you consider both the placement of the piano in the recordi...
