Personally, I wouldn't take the advice of anyone, including you or me, regarding how something sounds without seeing for myself. Nobody gives a shit about your advice, anyway. So get off of your high horse. Later. What makes your advice so great? Not that it really makes much difference, anyway, you...

What makes your advice so great? Not that it really makes much difference, anyway, you pinhead. Chances are you're probably like me and you don't have a space or monitors or ears that are even good enough to hear the difference. Wow. That's a horrible assumption to make. And, it's also clear evidenc...

At the time I bought the apogees, around 2002 or so, I bought some other expensive pres and stuff that I also regret buying, because it's way overkill for what I do. I guess it depends on what you do. I still think the need for outboard converters, assuming you bought a decent interface to begin wit...

Yeah, i guess. I still think you can do just fine today without expensive boutique converters and the whole clock thing as a determinant of sound is way overblown, but people are always figuring ways of getting money out of you. I'm beginning to like the Mackie interfaces, which sound pretty decent ...

My advice is try before you buy. Get one from a place like musicians friend or guitar center, and if it doesn't make a difference, return it. I'd be looking at a new interface before an outboard converter, myself, and I think the case for outboard converters is asn't as compelling today as it was 6 ...

Not that I want to be argumentative (ha ha), but could you give me an example of a "bad" converter? Besides maybe the 8 bit converter on my 20 year old Ensoniq Mirage? Most interfaces made in the last few years use pretty much the same converters -- akm model whatever-the-fuck or some other japanese...

If your funds are limited like mine, I'd much rather have some better mics, pres, or just another audio interface with perfectly good converters (not that I think it will make much of a difference). Most of the interfaces that have come out in the last couple of years sound decent enough, and once y...

I don't know -- maybe it's just me. I bought the apogee rosettas a few years ago, and was generally pretty disappointed with the difference they made. If you have less than 20 or 30 grand to spend on your studio, I could think of a million things I'd rather buy. But that's just me. Personally, I'd a...

Re: Converter confusion....
There's about maybe an inch or two of analog path in the rosetta; I can't conceivably see how that could make any difference. As for the "clock," I've done blind tests myself with the apogee and a Layla 24, and I couldn't hear any difference there either. I'm pretty unconvinced that for most people ...

Re: Converter confusion....
Personally, I'd probably just get a new interface. I don't use digi, but I think the 003 uses the same converters as the apogees. I'm starting to think about the whole A/D converter situation and what I need to do to upgrade. After looking at the Apogee site I'm more than a little overwhelmed and I'...

I'd hate to go to another version of the Bay Area, which has become a big overcrowded, sprawling toilet with a few overpriced nice areas. I'm looking at small towns like Eugene, Bend, or mabye a smaller city like Boise or Portland. Never lived in Chicago but used to have to go there a bit for work. ...

Re: drum software/drum machine/drummer choice's?
I'm interested to know this myself, because I'm in roughly the same position. I think I even posted a thread asking something similar, and someone mentioned Korg Karma (which I believe has been discontinued). I imagine it depends on the quality. If they're just rough demo's, Band in a Box is pretty ...
