I recall seeing a photo of John, Paul & George on stage with a light gray pair of Sennheiser MD421s on stands for their vocal duties. Had to have been late '64/early '65 (Help!) era. It struck me by surprise, cause I didn't think they were around back then. And for some reason I believe it was a per...

I'm in the same boat, but I bought a Crimson Mogaine on a whim. Same principal as the others I guess. Pretty solid gizmo; quiet enough to not want to trade it off. Need more time with it & the various mics in my locker. Want to get a Durham too, but last time I checked they were out of stock/in betw...

I've had a pair of Utah 10" speakers lying on their backs in my shop for a while now. They have aluminum coil covers and were in perfect shape. Well, one day I went looking for something or another to use on anther project, and while searching & shifting stuff an object fell off the shelf & dropped ...

Idunno...my logic says they'd be buttoning up everything to clear out by 12/31/13. I'd be on the horn/email post haste. Last I looked (about 2 weeks ago) their website was still up, no contact was made though. And talk about gear upgrades: I've got units that'll only operate under SCSI II - try find...

OMG!! I wasn't expecting to hear that! Can only blame the slack-ass economy for it. Tough global market too. Very sad; I wish them well. Jon, I'm thinking that you've made a safety net of your expertise in these mics to keep you up & running for a long while to come. Never lose that edge! Ki...

Good to know, ju. Sooo....those first Shinybox units can be collectibles if un-modded, eh? ;) As I look deeper into the construction of these things, there really IS a lot of screen layers in there! Seems a bit overkill just for the sake of fewer RMAs. I mean, the ribbon on these first wave issues w...

Man, theft sucks!! Don't know if you have or had greater pieces for someone to take, but the very act....even if it were just for a stick of chewing gum...is dispicable. Sorry you were victimized regardless how long ago it was. Scum, Thanks for clearing the history up for me. Kinda tough reading int...

Okay, I git it (I think). Shinybox & PPA more or less spring-boarded their retail business's thru group buys. I began to think that the group buys fell through the cracks & the middle men (Shinybox; PPA) got left holding the bags, so they had no choice other than sell them under their unique brands....

Glad to hear you're still using em, Tony. Railroad tie?!? Now THAT I'd like to hear! Where can I get a copy of that? The whole ensemble sounds entertaining in fact. TIA 8) Scodiddly: Yeah, I could see these things being a bit clumsy in a live/stage setting. Was this before Shinybox took on the 'bout...

"bought a couple of MXL ribbon carcasses on Craigslist for a few bucks because the owner was going to mod them by taking all of those screens out, and while they were open, the strong magnets picked the headbasket screws up off his bench, and pulled them through the ribbon." Boy, I hate when that ha...

Nice input, guys! Those shockmounts are wicked, Joel!! Talk about adding vibe to the space...I'm impressed. Good to see some of you are still flexing them from time to time, and so far it seems many took on the headbasket mods to open up their responsiveness & tame the ringing. I wonder if China eve...

Wow - A real photo of the kit...cool!! So, being as that XLR socket was 'non-standard', did the factory supply XLR cables in the bundle or did you have you buy them outright from PPA? And I guess a logo was never agreed upon, eh? Nice looking pieces I have to say. Thanks, shedshrine! Who else is out...

Thanks, Snarf! That's a thread that even Google didn't drum up, but still...it's 6 years old and only about six posts long. I recognize one of those posters, so I'll try PM'g him for some personal insight. It's a start ;)

Thanks again!!

TOMB group buy ribbbon mic: Who still has/uses thiers??

OK...Saw one of these Tape Op ribbon mics slip through the Bay recently, and before then I never knew of them. Apparently there was a group buy for these Chinese ribbon mics back in '05. The subject threads within the TOMB get wacky after a few pages, and there never seems to be any confirmed closur...
