Ok, I did get around to testing my Behringer mixer preamps again (the model on this mixer is the UB1202). Here's how I did it: first, I set my Focusrite Red to a specific gain setting (in these cases, 48dB and 60dB). Then, I hooked up an SM57 to it, and set it at an easily reproduceable distance fro...

I have a much happier story about my laptop. It's a POS Dell, 1Ghz P3 with no built in wireless and a dead battery. About a year ago, I was hanging out with a roommate drinking some nasty vodka/fruit punch and watching YouTube videos at the table, when I managed to knock my entire glass straight ont...

A-Barr-

As far as I can tell, your mixer is very similar to the one I used for my test.. I might stop by my studio and try it again, to see if I get the same results.

Hmm, that's interesting to note. What model is it?

I mostly like discussing Behringer because of how angry people get over it. I noticed nobody addressed my question; has anybody compared Behringers with internal power supplies to Behringers with external power supplies? And as a reference for noise, I run sound over at my church, which has a Mackie...

Maybe it's a quality control thing. The two I have listened to were just plain noisy. The noise on the one I helped track with wasn't so noticeable when using just the preamp with a mic that had a good strong signal, but when it was used to submix drums, taking 4 mics and outputting one signal, it ...

I'm sorry, but I'm not really sure why everybody here thinks Behringer mixers are so noisy. At my studio I've got a Focusrite Red 8, a Drawmer MX60, a Presonus DigiMax LT, and a pair of ART TPS IIs. I've also got a couple Behringer mixers that get used mainly for utilitarian purpose, ie headphone mi...

Gotcha, so the fan had a molex already. Do you know which two cables from the 4-pin molex are coming off the plug to the fan?

Well, I'm relieved that nobody thinks this is an unfixable problem. In response to some of the statements/questions: Yes, the problem is mostly mid-to-high frequency content, and we haven't noticed any significant structure-borne noise. There is the occasional stereo blasting downstairs as well, but...

I've got two ART DPSIIs; sound quality is alright, but I find the controls and metering to be annoying. Some genius decided that instead of having the three generic looking knobs for each channel be the same, they're mirror images of each other. I'm sure that's great for symmetry, but I inevitably e...

The extra pin on the plug is actually to report RPM to the motherboard, that's what would show up in the BIOS on a PC. What pins from the 4-pin Molex did you tap to connect it?

My rig at home is in a Powerspec tower (Microcenter's brand, made by Cooler Master) that has a big grill for the entire front, backed by a filter. The grill builds up regularly with a visible layer of dust, and whenever it looks bad I just grab the dustbuster and clean it off. All the intake is from...

Sound transmission through floor

Ok, here's the deal. I've been renting out this space with my studio partner for a little over a year now. It's a great deal for the most part; easy access from anywhere in the Twin Cities, just off a main street (University for those in the area) with it's own parking lot, and LOTS of space for lit...
