One of my teachers had pulled apart an old Altec board, and racked up 4 of the pres. He loved it, although I never got a chance to hear a direct comparison.

So, quick question here: has anybody compared the LT to the FS? What are the differences in sound quality?

One thing I noticed about your page is that the dashes in between all the links in the navigation link to Apple's homepage. I'm assuming this is an artifact of the page being made in iWeb; maybe when you do an image map in it, it links sections of it to Apple's page by default?

For the most part, you've gotten all the info you need from the previous posters. Here's a couple things to add: 1) I actually had a terrible experience with Tiger Direct. I ordered 3 Delta 1010LT cards from them while they were on sale, which were going into a system I was building for someone else...

I might be biased because I'm also one of those people who's been using computers all their life, and it's my day job as well as a much more profitable freelancing career than engineering has been for me so far. But to me, it sounds like you dropped a bunch of cash on some computer recording gear, a...

Thanks for the scan Brian, that brochure helps confirm some of my suspicions about the box. It looks like I was right about the vocal/instrument switch, as the brochure lists it as a hi/lo gain switch. I'll probably take some pictures of it next time I'm over at the studio, maybe late tonight or tom...

Unless I'm thinking of the wrong ADC cable, this is providing power to the monitor too. According to the Wiki article on it, the cable is rated to provide 100 watts, which seems like it would be a little excessive to run on Cat5. Not to mention it looks like there's 30 or so pins on it, so you'll ne...

I've got the Red (a two channel version of the Red 1), and while I like it I'm not sure I'd be that desperate to have 4 channels of it. I've recorded a couple songs where I used the Red on everything, and afterwards kind of wished I hadn't because it didn't seem to stack up so well.

We actually got ours for even cheaper, because we bought it off another guy who was going the "fewer but better" route with pres. I can't speak to the conversion on it, because we're going out of the inserts into a MOTU 24i/o (no digital inputs). Sound quality is pretty nice though, and I like the s...

Hey, looks like you just broke 7000 with that post! I'm actually really glad that you mentioned doing gigs in context with engineering, because it resonates with me. When I was still playing with a regular band, I was always the guy who brought up money; we'd get a gig playing somewhere, and I'd ask...

I don't post my rates because I like to actually have some contact with people.. That's a good point, and ironically is also a major reason why I like people to know my rates before I talk to them. For me, telling people how much I charge is absolutely one of the worst parts of recording. I really ...

What's your RAM situation, ie, what did you have in your Powerbook and how much is in the Mini? All the Mini models have integrated graphics, which means that the graphics card uses your system memory instead of having its own. This can eat up RAM fast, so if you were using a Powerbook that had the ...

I don't think kayagum's talking about just putting a plugin on, he's saying it would be a manual, fix-every-second type of deal. Each chunk of noise from the tv, you frequency edit it. I don't have Audition, but we have the Adobe Master Suite at work and it comes with Soundbooth, which I think has t...

It also had a fold-out U47 that really worked! The sound was a little "papery", though.
