Re: Oktava 319. Thoughts?
I'm thinking about getting this mic soon. I'm mainly a musician/songwriter but I'm getting more into recording and I want to get something to replace my mxl 990. Are there any other mics you would suggest in this price range? I've paid less than $100 each for my 319s, and I can't think of anything ...

if you use white noise, you are listening to all frequencies at the same amplitude, so that should carry over to any instrument pretty well. guess you might need a "reamp" device if you send the noise from inside your DAW. more commonly, people just turn the amp up real loud (WITHOUT A GUITARIST PL...

If they are close miced you can just make sure the diaphrams are the same distance away from the speaker. For one close and one mic far you should get some isolation headphone on in ear phones on and play some white noise through yr amp. Have yr close mic on the grill where you want it and grab you...

Re: first time audio interface buyer
...A friend suggested that I get a midi interface, rather than going straight from my 4-track (or old sunn magna mixer) into my laptop's sound card... Unless you are planning to use your computer as a synthesizer that you intend to control with an external keyboard (or some other similar stuff) mid...

I'm a business/contract litigation attorney licensed in Virginia and Georgia. I have no idea about the law in California, but I would be researching things like the "implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose." It sounds like the space was held out as being fit for a recording studio, and ...

Good source of midi drum grooves?
I know, audio and pre-made midi loops are bad. With that out of the way, does anyone have a good source for midi drum grooves? I'm not looking to spend a bunch of money here. I'm just looking for a variety of standard beats I can futz with while otherwise lacking inspiration.

Zoom R16 - Any Opinions?
I was doing some searches on the Zoom R16 and noticed that a couple of folks here have one. It looks like a really convenient piece of gear for the home recording enthusiast (like me). Does anyone have an opinion to share on the quality of the mic preamps, the AD converters, or the hardware? Does an...

The Yamaha MSP5 is an excellent small monitor. The midrange detail and clarity is great at any price point, the bonus is they are affordable. The low end response is very even handed, not muddy (like those RP series KRK...yes they are muddy). I had a pair of those. For the price, I thought they wer...

I have a pair of 4408's that sound awesome, but the foam around the cone needs to be replaced. anyone know how hard it is to do that? I did a pair of L110s, which have a 10" woofer. It can be more or less hard dep[ending on whether you want the foam surrounds mounted on the front or back of your co...

I know they're more than $100, but I've been using the Audio Technica ATH-M50's a TON for tracking lately and absolutely love them. Their isolation is excellent, and the sound quality is on par with a good set of monitor speakers. Actually, the m50s seem to be readily available on that major auctio...
