My studio is insured through Clarion. Thankfully I have not had to file a claim yet, so I don't know how that end works. My plan covers all the gear whether at the studio, en route to another destination, at gigs, other studios, wherever. The only thing not covered is water in the basement; theft an...

One side of the transformer has two leads, the other side has solder lugs. I didn't strip any lacquer off anything. I'll de-solder my Mogami/XLRs ends and take a look. It's a step-up transformer to 600 ohms and I'm also starting to think I should have bought one that steps to about 200 ohms. Still w...

transformer

I soldered two XLRs for i/o onto the the transformer and plugged the NS10m-as-microphone in and... nothing. I've never done anything with a transformer and a solder iron, while I have plenty of experience making/repairing cables and simple other soldering work. So I have some research to do to under...

I'm planning on having a talented drummer come in to the studio to give me some consistent performances to compare between the transformer and without. I'lll be glad to post some wav files of the two. It may be a few weeks befor eI get to all that, though:)

I have an old NS10m woofer which I made an XLR pigtail for. I run that signal into a preamp; I find the output is quite hot. It gives me the bottom I'm looking for without additional EQ. Additionally, I use a dynamic mic on the bass drum for attack/transient information. I just purchased a transform...

If you have the space available to store the boxes, why not keep them? In case of repair or the desire to sell the gear the boxes will be quite handy. My attic has all the boxes for the gear I've bought over the years. When I move the studio to new locations, all the gear goes back in the original p...

Hamond M3

I picked up the 1960s era Hammond M3 just this past Sunday.

Here's a link to a photo as it now sits in my 'wood' room: http://tinyurl.com/aqqxthf

I throw session related stuff up at tumblr and twitter, but I'm fairly new to both platforms. Mostly Atlanta/SE area related bands.

I've had the best results using a couple of passive DIs getting in and out of the 201.

Here's my routing:

PT OUT->
Passive DI backwards ->
1/4" TS into RE201PA input ->
1/4" TS out of the RE210 into passive DI ->
preamp ->
PT IN.

I've found this setup to sound the best.

Bon Chance

Are you one of the individuals not liberated by the exploding furnace?

EDIT: Nice work, gentlemen. For $2 it's a done deal.

I use the Copperphone live with one of my bands all the time. As others have noted, with high stage volumes you'll run into feedback pretty quickly. One effective trick is to use some slapback on the Copperphone. Also, when setting up I pay careful attention to the placement of the mic relative to t...

Oh, and CPU. For you HD system users out there, how often do you max out your systems during a mix? I have an HD2 running on a Mac Pro Quad 2.66 with 6 gigs of RAM. When I'm mixing projects that I've recorded or I am producing I typically do not run out of power. When I'm hired as a mix engineer fo...

I'm successfully running NI B4II on a PT HD 8.0.1/MacPro rig. In fact, I just double checked and it pulls up and plays just fine.
