The suction tool works fine for removing caps if you know what you're doing. The key is a good iron which already has been stated.

How about one of those suction tools or the braid?

I would try contacting Apple and say you have Logic 7, lost the dongle and want to upgrade to Logic 8. If you still have your Logic 7 registration you might be ok. I've also heard of people paying around $100 for a new dongle with Logic 7, I did about 5 years ago with Logic 5 or 6.

A good friend of mine worked there from 1998 till it closed. The studio had equipment stacked from the floor to the ceiling in almost every room. The place was an engineers dream. This is sad if it is no longer there, that location was beautiful.
