Re: HOW OLD ARE YOU???
If years were Ohms and I were a resistor, my color bands would be orange, blue, black and gold (because I'm a pretty tolerant guy ;)). Awesome. I'm rusty and had to bust out a piece of paper to figure that out. "Better Be Right, Or Your Great Big Venture Goes West". Anyway, I'm 30, Associates Degre...

Re: Mixing and mastering classical music
Does anyone here do that? I do some of that stuff. I usually don't tell the rock clients about it. I don't tell the classical clients about the rock stuff, either. Probably 1/3 of my recordings are classical. I've been spending a bunch of time listening to classical music lately. And not the artsy-...

Re: DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS?
Hey! I figured out the problem! Actually, I had the same problem. Mackie has a .pdf of the manual on the web here: www.mackie.com/pdf/hr624_tg.pdf The problem is this: That switch on the front is apparently a mute switch, and those little LEDs are "signal present lights". On the back, that switch th...

Re: Golden Ears
I used those CDs when I taught production classes at a college that I worked at as a facility tech. (As adjunct faculty...i only have a bachelor's degree). Dave Moulton taught there as well, that's how we got started with the CDs. He's a really nice guy, as well as a really good teacher. The CDs gre...

Re: Presonus ACP-8 Problems--be aware
About a year ago, a place that I was working at installed three ACP 88s. All three of them had opwer supply problems, and blew up. I believe the sales rep said that they "had a bad run of rectifiers." When these ones blew, the audio wiring to them hadn't been completed yet, they were just sitting in...

Re: What sounds better a pc or a mac?
Sound wise, I would go for the Commodore. As mentioned above, there really isn't a major difference between machines. As for which is quieter, I have a Dell sitting on the floor next to me that runs almost silent, and the Mac G4 up in the studio screams like an injured cat in the next room. (Well m...

Re: EE Skool
I went to school for two years towards an EE degree. After about 1.5 years, I realized that I couldn't work in an office all day with the type of people I was going to school with. I finished that year and got an Associate's degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. What was probably different fo...

Re: soldering tips for y'all
I'm going to add two more cents to this. Actually four cents. The first two cents: Something I learned in school (i went to school for electronics first, then communications/audio) was that the amount of bare wire hanging past the solder joint and the connector should be no more than the diameter of...

Re: a tascam four track that won't power up
one other thing to consider after you have made sure that the power supply is correct (voltage, polarity, amperage) is that the jack inside the four track is OK. I have fixed a lot of broken solder joints on the circuit board that broke because the four track fell off a table and landed on the plug ...

Re: Read a moog rumor...
The Rogue has the exact same engine as the Taurus, if you're looking for a cheaper alternative. I'd like to see some ARP's re-issued, WITH the ripped-off Moog pole filters, if you please. I just want to add that the Rouge is the same as the Taurus 2. The Taurus 2 had an octave and a half pedalboard...

Re: I need the pinout for a stereo mic 5 pin xlr
hey, maybe you could plug one of the 3 pins into the tester and stick a piece of solder or wire into the five pin side and then touch the wire to the tester's other side? I'm not totally familiar with the behringer tester...I looked a picture of it online. I'm not totally sure you can trick the thin...

I need the pinout for a stereo mic 5 pin xlr
I need to make a breakout that goes to two 3 pin xlrs, does anyone have a stereo mic that uses a five pin xlr and has the splitter cable? care to check it with a continuity tester for me? thanks a bunch,

Re: Rhodes Power Amp Failure
was it a suitcase model? (separate speaker/amp that the piano part sits on) my friend had a suitcase 88 that had a power transistor failure and a few resistors went up in smoke, and it partially melted the wiring cover and wax potting on the transformer, too. If you do find a place, please post it, ...

Re: mixing doubled guitars and bass
When you guys have to mix doubled guitars and bass tracks, do you usually cut the bottom on the guitars to make room for the bass, or cut the upper mids out of the bass to make room for the guitars? Sure, its a track specific kind of thing, but we all have protocol we reach for off the bat... dave ...
