I'm far from a pro....but I'd try maybe notching out a frequency in the bass that corresponds to your bump in the kick to allow a little room.

what software should i look into for doing it? i've got the logic 8 bundle and access to pro tools at the moment. For a home mastering project of the caliber you are describing....I think that waveburner should be sufficient. Comes with the logic8 bundle......you can normalize, sequence....hell.......

It wouldn't make any difference if there were. By the time DP gets the signal, it's already been through the converters. If you clip the converters, there is nothing any software can do to fix it.
