I want 4 independent outputs. That clarification changes things. So you don't want to mix the guests live? The M267 would've supplied phantom power to 4 additional condensers, but yes, they'd ultimately wind up on one un-alterable track on your Roland. Not trying to add to your confusion, just tryi...

WTB: Samson Armored XLR cable (steel clad)

This may be a long shot, but since Tape Op folks are pretty resourceful people I thought I'd give it a try. Does anyone have or know where I can get a hold of steel-clad XLR (3-pin) microphone cable? I can only find rubber armored mic cables or bulk armored cable spools for electricians. It is smoot...

Shure M267 remote mixer

One dirt cheap solution, especially if you are doing remote sessions, may be a 4 channel mixer with phantom power. For a whopping $30 (including rack mount), I picked up a Shure M267 which can run on AC or remotely on three 9v batteries providing phantom power on four channels. http://abc.eznettools...

Wiping out two years of programming on a drum machine, thinking I was backing it up. Delaying the kickoff of a live event by wasting ten minutes taping down a second cable run - thinking the first cable was bad, only to find out soon after, that the original run was disconnected under a cable-mat. I...

Second-hand (yet pristine) Voice Channel tube preamp, but on the inside, it is loaded with a Telefunken 12AX7 upgrade! (My belated birthday treat to myself). Ju...

What a cool mom! I may have a challenge for her though:
Got any ideas for bagging an overhead-mounted Shure SM7B on a broadcast boom?

I was also going to suggest the Boomerang+ There a are a lot of looper pedals out there like the JamMan, with memory cards and programming modes, set-ups and so on and so forth...Next thing you know, it's not about live looping anymore. But for LIVE playing, nothing is more straightforward than the ...

Ditto on Rockit Cargo If you intend on bringing ANY of your gear in carry-on, the best advice I was given, is to always include a copy of the manuals along with whatever components you have on you. Security is bound to scratch their heads over odd shaped microphones, etc. there is no way for you to ...

Since the ZOOM H4N came out, the earlier H4 model came down in price so I snagged one from AMS around Christmas...mind you, my last hand-held recorder took micro-cassettes, so anything digital was a step up. It's own mics work great, minus handling noise. The menu lets you even set them to emulate t...

Shure SM7B paired with ART Tube MP

thanks so much chuck, carl and mertmo these Heil mics really intrigue me because they seem to have "new classic" potential After all this time had passed, I thought I'd follow up..... Mics: I finally picked up the Shure SM7B for $280 on eBay. It is just the workhorse I needed. Great rejection of ba...

Childhood collectables

I have 2 Casio SK-1 (one's the Realistic knock off) This makes me want to dig them out and give them a test run. On the note of toys though, not to sound cold, but the day Lee Majors passes away, I will be anticipating a profitable, nostalgic windfall for all my Six Million Dollar Man childhood bion...

Re: my 57 died :(

Sometimes the wires that connect the barrel to the cartdige get twisted so far that they snap. That's the most frequent culprit. I just soldered the green and yellow leads back onto the cartridge of a 57 last night. before I closed up the mic, I backwound the wires a few turns counter-clockwise bef...

Heil PR40

Like I said earlier, I tried the Heil PR40 along with the other two and it's a fantastic mic, but not for my voice and not for an environment with background noise (computer fans, etc). It certainly felt well-made and would be much more portable than the Shure. Apparently it is beloved by many membe...
