feed switch behavior on API 500-8B Lunchboxes?

Quick question: In the current API 8 slot lunchbox, (500-8B) when you link two channels using the switch on the back, is the line output from the first slot still available? That is, does the feed output to the next slot appear in parallel with the output on the DB25 port, or does it switch it out? ...

Yeah, I thought about phantom power, and looked at that circuit. I guess I have it in my head that 9VDC from a battery will be both cleaner and more reliable in terms of providing a constant voltage---usually I'll have a nice preamp handy, but if not, e.g. I remember not wanting to phantom power any...

Yeah, I was actually wondering about that, as it seems to also put the 9VDC on pin 3 as is.

Not sure if you're still having this problem... But is it both channels, playing back audio through the phono inputs? (What happens when you put it into playback mode?) If the problem is duplicated on both L and R, I think it must be a switching issue, as the only parts shared by the two monoblock a...

adding xfmr to diy/tapeop omnis

Using the archived copy of the article here: http://recordinghacks.com/articles/how-to-build-a-microphone/ (If this has been covered elsewhere, please let me know---I didn't find anything directly in the archives but my search fu may of course be weak.) I'm considering building a couple of these to ...

The problem with higher pot values is you lose increasing amounts of high frequency when the pot is turned down any significant amount. Yeah, I was thinking about this. I play electric guitar, so it's a familiar phenomenon. As long as I'm asking questions: (warning, brain dump. i gave myself a home...

Gah, you're right about the parallel loads. Thanks! Yeah, I'm assuming the tube grid impedance will always be very high. After further thought, I'm wondering what would happen if I just used 500K pots on both channels. (Edit: this isn't a pot on the second channel, it's R10.) I got to wondering what...

Yeah, I was wondering if that's what it was, given the 10x rule of thumb and 10x discrepancy---i.e., that I didn't understand what they meant by "200 ohm input." Let me try this again. In the Boris, the EF86 channel is connected like this: trafo secondary -> 100K -> grid Suppose the mic input is wir...

tube preamp input impedances

I'm modding a Roberts/Akai reel to reel for mic pre/DI duty. I'm generally following RodC's Boris schematic , but I want both of the hi-z inputs (i.e., both the EF86 and 12AD7 channels) to look like instrument DIs. In the Boris, the input impedances are given as 100K and 500K for the EF86 and 12AD7 ...

a few mic/pre comparisons

I've been recording and shopping, and got some hopefully useful comparisons along the way. 1. The gear overhaul was: a pair of Neve Portico 511 pres in a Radial Cube rack, and for my trusty (if chirpy) Rode NT5s, I picked up pairs of Michael Joly's 384k cardioid caps, and the Rode omnis. This was a ...

After sleeping on it, I think I can phrase my question(s) more specifically. I know I can impedance-balance the output by switching to a 3-pin connector, and connecting the cold leg to ground through an appropriately valued resistor. But "impedance balancing" in this case refers to balancing the imp...

balancing tube preamp outputs?

I think my question is fairly general. I scored an old Roberts tube reel to reel awhile ago, and I'm looking at some of RodC's awesome mods to use them as mic pres. In, e.g., his Boris schematic... http://www.beyondsanityproductions.com/misc/Akai%20M7%20Right%20Schematic%20_MOD_BorisModel.jpg ...the...
