I would also suggest Reaper if you are able to install it. You can also install it on a small portable drive (I run it on a 16GB flash drive) - but check that your IT folks haven't locked down the option of using external drives. If you go with the iPad, it's important to differentiate that the 8GB ...

SSL Nucleus v. other control surfaces - opinions?

I'm currently using a Tascam FW-1804, which I'm actually really happy with - but I need a control surface (and/or) mixer for my DAW (Reaper/Windows). Wondering if I can take this as an opportunity to upgrade my sound, so I'm looking at the SSL Nucleus as an option since I'm more comfortable with an ...

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply. Good to see ya Chris! I will PM you my info, thanks man - I appreciate that! They did seal around the seams and from what I could tell, every gap, before the drywall went in. I need to verify if they used acoustic caulk though. It was orange, that's all I know. I ...

Sorry, posted to quick - I need to clarify: I do know the difference between soundproofing and treatment - I meant the trapping under 200khz - can you elaborate? I'm guessing that means to get the 40-30khz under control involves some construction? I *can* do some minor construction on certain walls ...

Thanks JWL, checking out those links now.

Regarding the bass trapping, does that mean a vinyl solution like Sheetblok or MLV plus the corner traps won't keep the bass from getting out of the room?

Even if I use 1 ft thick bass traps?

I'm back after hiatus and finally building a space! Advice?

Hey all, I'm getting active again in music after a few years off doing filmmaking. My wife and I are building a house and I'll finally have a very nice workspace after years of very closet-size spare rooms and apartments. Just wanted to share what I'm doing, and hoping to get some suggestions on it....

I just did this last year with tapes about the same age. I luckily have a friend who owned an ADAT edit PCI card, and he loaned me the card to use in my powermac 8600. I bought a single blackface deck on ebay for around $200 and did the transfers. It was extremely simple, but tedious - it took me FO...

Hey thanks Tom, that looks like it may be the solution. I'm getting fearless these days when it comes to DIY. :) Whether it's the smart thing to do, time will tell!

Luckily I have taken great care in storing and moving these and my other reels over the years.

Bakin' tapes?

I have 2 16-track 1/2 reels done on a Fostex G16s from about 1989. It's my first serious recording I ever did, and for nostalgic reasons would love to save it. (Sadly, I never mixed it since I moved a few states away right after recording, and just never got around to getting into a studio before ev...

Here's the Alesis page with ADAT Connect drivers and ADAT Edit software. It's been discontinued but if your OS supports it this might help. I use a Powermac 8600 but it doesn't have a fast enough disk drive to do more than 1 track at a time. http://www.alesis.com/contentmgr/showdetails.php/id/1412/t...
