FS: TAC Scorpion 24x16x2
- one knob is missing on an aux send but there is an extra card you can swap in if you care - previous owner said he did a cap job on it probably 10-15 years ago - i upgraded some of the preamp chips from ssm1015 to a combo of ssm2019, THAT1510, and 1NA217. i forgot which channels got which chips, i...

Your Favorite Intel Mac VST/AU Plugins
i've enjoyed using guitar rig lately. i used to be a tube amp purist but man, running a lead direct through this helps when i want to conserve negative space in the recording and have a really dry sound. also i downloaded the W1 Limiter (http://www.yohng.com/w1limit.html) and its AWESOME. way better...

if you take EQ and compression in a broad sense - what is there to do to warm up a track that doesnt involve changing around the relative balance of frequencies (EQ) or the relative balance of volume (compression/limiting)? i realize that this thread was about not using an equalizer or compressor (t...

for the drum tracks i would skip the 57 on bottom snare and record the scratch guitar on that track instead. that way you can at least listen to drums and guitar on playback instead of just the drums by themselves. idea: you could always skip the bottom snare when recording the drums, then reamp th...

from what i understand, the real secret to this method is having a decent room (because youll get a good deal of room in the overheads, which make up a bulk of the sound), a decent drummer (because there is not a whole lot of level manipulation you can do later), and a decent drumset. then mics and ...

i have a TV yellow SX les paul copy. sounds decent. nothing mind blowing, but for the price its a hell of a lot of bang for your buck. the wood is good, the neck is pretty alright, the electronics and hardware are acceptable-at-best (and even then you need a high tolerance for crappy components.) i ...

for vocals, youll definitely want a large diaphragm condenser. These kinds of statements scare me. OK HOW ABOUT "you'll definitely want the OPTION of a large diaphragm condenser." is that better now that i qualified it? i mean, obviously i wasnt saying "for vocals, youll always want to use an LDC."...

im personally not a fan of the rode mics. i think they arent as good as some other options in the price range. i think you can get a just-as-nice mic for less. seriously, check out the studio projects mics before getting rode. i dont even own one but ive heard from many sources they are just as good...

as someone who was very recently in the "only a couple of sm57s" situation, my advice is: get 3-4 mics of different kinds. like for instance, if you buy some of those chinese made clones (apex, nady, etc.) - one large diaphragm condenser, one ribbon, and an RE20 or MD421 will run you around $500 (no...
