trade Martin for 335?

Greetings, people of the TOMB. I have an awesome Martin OM-28V. Really awesome. I'd like to have an awesome Gibson 335. Or one of the many 335 derivatives (330?). I'm willing to give up my Martin to get the 335. I know this is a long shot (people don't want to part with 335s, it seems), but I figure...

One thing I found interesting is that Monahan apparently used no condenser mics in the making of "Thing of the Past" (see: http://mixonline.com/studios/business/audio_la_grapevine_109/). I don't know if this applies to "Tight Knit," but I think the two records have a similar thumbprint. My personal ...

Vetiver "Tight Knit"

Wow. Has anyone else had an opportunity to hear this record? Really sweet. I'm told it was tracked and mixed by Thom Monahan at the Hangar. And mastered by the awesome JJ Golden. Does Mr. Monahan hang out here? I want to know more about how this record was made. It sounds so perfect to me. I hope yo...

My guess is that the hi hat is just panned to one side. If you swapped the channels and the high end moved with the channel, it is not the speakers. If you are still wondering if something is wrong, play a different CD. Thanks for all the replies. I guess I was just hoping someone could check that ...

do other songs demonstrate a similar response when played through the speakers in question, or is your suspicion based solely upon the hi-hat in the song you mention? To be honest (I know this is making me look like a real jackass), it's mostly stuff from that Wilco record. Has anyone else had a ch...

sum to mono and listen to one speaker at a time... Yeah, but what would that tell me that I don't already know? I just took the CD player and hooked it straight up to the speakers. Ran the L cord and R cord into the monitor I thought had the blown tweeter, and it turned out the L side of the record...

L speaker/R speaker

I need a quick reference check from some of you guys. I made a very dumb assumption, but if that's all it was, I'll be happy. I'll get to the point. I was about to pull apart my monitors based on the assumption that I had a blown tweeter. I thought I had a blown tweeter because of some songs I heard...

how to play "River" by Red House Painters

Such an odd request. Not sure if this is the right forum? I really want to cover this song. It's gotta be standard tuning capo 2...but that last part ("and two yellow eyes remember...") feels different. Anyone understand the mysteries of Mr. Kozelek? I saw him play it last weekend but couldn't get c...

Tape Op fueled CD Release show tonight Milwaukee

Guess what. I finally finished my record. Many of you helped immensely. It's called "A Sun Goes Down." My band is Time Since Western. Our CD release show is tonight at Linneman's in Milwaukee. Come on by if you're a TOer. I'll buy you a beer. If you guys want to hear any finished songs (mastered by ...

Mark Nevers/Andrew Bird

Really cool New York Times blog thingy with different songwriters here: http://measureformeasure.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/08/natural-history/ What really caught my eye was that Andrew Bird is working with Mark Nevers in Nashville. The most recent post referenced a Nevers technique of tracking vocal...

Can't they just send you a replacement ribbon? I once stupidly melted the ribbon on a S3A by accidentally changing fader modes on a Neve VR while tracks were armed, creating a feedback loop. It was a pretty easy swap... and a pretty hard lesson to forget! Yeah, I'm in touch with them, and that's on...

Is your listening room symmetrical, in terms of layout and acoustic treatment? If not, it could be the room causing the anomaly. Though I agree it's likely a blown tweeter. Well, the room has some issues for sure, but I actually switched the positions of the monitors. Also took them into a differen...

Ya thats not acceptable in any way; I'm sure Adam would agree. Sidenote: thats how I found out I lost a little 5k in one ear. Turns out it was just me. Thought I might be having the same issue, but listened with both ears. Pretty sure it's not me. Incidentally, it's $50 to send these babies back! Y...
