No

I live in LA. moved here from Florida. I would not recommend others moving here for more work. Hard to come by, unless you spend 2 or 3 years working minimum wage at one of the major studios until they let you move up in the world. Everybody and their mother knows someone who has a "recording studio...

true, reverse reverb is not new. its used in scary movies all the time. but I think it's something thats not used in music much - I can't remember a time period when everybody was using it like people use the lofi/distorted vocals right now. thats why I was saying maybe thats an aproach that might b...

I just did a track with heaping doses of the Poltergeist effect on the lead vocal: Reverse Reverb. Plus I ran the vocals through some crazy, clean, effect-laden signal paths in Guitar Rig. Its a super minimalistic song - but the vocal effects on lead and backing vocals gave it this hip, retro, futur...

Does Guitar Rig actually have a DSP card in it? Or is it essentially software with a hardware controller? Latency is a real vibe killer... There's no DSP card. There's no hardware controller. It's just a plugin and/or stand alone software. If you want to use it "live", theres an 11ms latency with m...

GuitarRig

For recording direct guitars, GuitarRig is my holy grail. Native Instruments has their latest version of GuitarRig amp and effects software simulator - and it blows everything out of the water, IMHO. I've been a hardcore advocate of Line6 products for many years now. Since I've discovered the sheer ...

yes. thats why its important to deaden the surrounding area anyway you can. and compress the crap out of it with quick attack and release

Re: So I need suggestions on getting a dry vocal sound...

i like the gobo idea and SUPER close micing with tons of compression. but in order to prevent proximity effect, i like to use omni mode - which creates a little sense of room, thats why super close micing is important to prevent that.

Re: Stereo Micing Techniques for Gtr Amps.

i gave up on this crap long ago - that is, trying to get 2 mics on the same guitar speaker. it murders my creative spark for recording. its horribly tedious and never sounds WIDE enough for me, and is always phase-y. i like my guitars HUGE and WIDE and THICK - but also monocompatible. my recent tric...

Re: Steve Albini Drum Sound?

Both heads of all drums were recorded DANG man! if you've got a 5 piece set - snare, kick, and 3 toms - thats 10 mics right there! plus 2 OH's, and 2 'border mics'. 14 mics for the drums alone. and my guitarist was giving me shit for using 9 mics when we did drums. now this really really makes me q...

Re: Heavy Metal Engineers...Andy Sneap, Fredrik Nordstrom??

Terry Date is one of the best producers, ever when it comes to clear and heavy guitar bands.

White Zombie's AstroCreep 2000 is a master piece.

so is his work with Sound Garden and Pantera.

Re: recording horns

keep the sense of space in mind. do you really want EVERY one of those horns to be all up in your face? then close mic them all. otherwise... DONT. keep in mind the general rule of recording acoustic instruments: in order to get a real to life natural sound, the mic should be at least 1/2 the total ...

Re: Anyone ever tried this??

theres something about that copied double sound that i think sounds AWESOME on everything except guitars.

i love it on synths, vocals, snare, but not bass or guitar IMHO
