Re: Need help with U87 XLR jack repair

quick follow up... maybe this is worthy of it's own post but i'll start here. I need to strip a little insulation off the ends of the wires that broke at the connector in order to resolder but these are VERY TINY wires and i doubt I can use a wire cutter and not cut the wire for something this smal...

Re: how to strip really small wires

I recommend you buy two of these, which should cover most wire gauges. https://www.kleintools.com/catalog/wire-stripperscutters/standard-wire-stripperscutters I own two, which covered any wire gauge I have yet encountered. For extremely small gauges (which you only find in some products), I recommen...

Re: How long does it take you to mix?

Editing isn't part of mixing for me - it should be done before as much as possible to allow the mix process to be more creative - get all the nuts and bots stuff done first. i agree, however these days, I almost never get a fully edited multi track. The artists I work with at least, are firmly in t...

Re: How long does it take you to mix?

Average, about 8-10 hours for the first song, then 6-8 hours for each one afterward. The first song always take longer, when doing an album, because we have to decide abou the overall tonality of each instrument, IF the album is going to be consistent instrument-wise across the whole thing. If not, ...

Re: Sharing GarageBand Files

At this point, the only real thing to do is have them export the audio as individual tracks, whoever it can be done.

Make them all begin at the same starting point, and import to PT for mixing.

Re: Sharing GarageBand Files

You need to know the exact Garageband version.

Apple at some point, in their infinite wisdom, made a new version which is not backwards compatible. Maybe this is the issue?

I’ve tried using an iso box and I had a hard time making it sound right, never did quite get there before I gave up.
Yeah, those iso boxes sure sounded like a good idea, but never quite made the grade.

Re: Online Guitar Lessons

I've been working through the Mickey Baker book this year. There's a minimalist website that can accompany it, www.jazzandhotguitar.com Not exactly what you're after, perhaps, but it's the first book course I've actually enjoyed and felt like I got a lot from. Really nice combination of building mu...

Re: Soundproofing a Tuff Shed

Hi, I recommend a combination of this: https://www.acoustimac.com/soundproofing-massloaded-vinyl-1lb50sf Covering the entire inside walls, as the outer layer of the inside wall construction. Outer wall shell > Mass loaded vinyl > 30dB rated (or more) bat insulation (also for heat retention > Standar...

Re: Limiter on rough mixes

This is true, but there's overs on loads and loads of CDs and they sound fine. I'm talking big time, famous, legitimate barcoded records. I've analyzed a ton of them and overs are more the rule than the exception. Yes. This is because, especially years ago, the loudness wars and the clients prefere...

Re: Limiter on rough mixes

I use the Waves Ultramaximizer L2 across the mix buss normally. I set it to threshhold of -1.0 dB, and an output of -0.2 dB. This accomplishes the goal of not allowing transients to overload the mix print, avoiding distortion. It also avoids coloring or messing up the mix, as it only makes it louder...

Re: Bass Plugins

Hi Mustang,

I recommend you check out the Amplitube 4 plug in, it is also stand alone.

They have a lot of bass guitar amplifier emulations, and I am sure you will enjoy them.

Re: Vocal Recording Question

I'm curious as to why there is this much change in overall quality between Nectar and the Waves/Logic Plug ins. Any Insight Folks? Different companies make different products ?!? I demoed the Izotope Nectar stuff. Was NOT impressed. I found them "fuzzy / phasey" sounding. Boxy. Totally unpleasant t...

If you're still on the search, I have a Tascam MS-16 and UA Apollo 16ii converter.
Hi Skitch, I do not know if my friend has gotten what she needed. PM me with your email, so I can get you in touch with her.

Thanks!
