Re: transparent 500 series pre

For super super clean audio, try the new Rupert Neve stuff.

His life's goal is CLEAN signal path. I think he is finally close to that.

those are NOT supposed to have "that Neve sound".

Re: gadgetlabs wavepro drivers for Windows 10???

I had a hellish time trying to get Windows 10 to chill out about the unsigned drivers. Test mode worked for installing, but every time I'd reboot it would complain about verification. Even putting it in permanent test mode didn't work. Finally the only thing that worked was installing a program wri...

Re: gadgetlabs wavepro drivers for Windows 10???

Well may I suggest a new audio interface? Focusrite. Which model? Can a good used one be found under a couple hundred bucks? I'm looking for 8 inputs. They have a bunch. Just search on their website to see if they have the drivers you need for a particular model, all of them are great, and their dr...

Re: Would Dumping from an 8 track repeatedly cause sync issues?

Short answer: Yes. Because: Each time you play back the tape machine, it will be at a slightly different speed, and this also will vary constantly over time. The only real way of doing this sort of overdubs, is with a proper 2" tape machine which can be controlled with something like a Lynx synchron...

I really dislike The Black Keys but that album he did with Auerbach, Locked Down, might be in my top 10 of all time. I saw him at a festival in Chi in the early 90's and he did not look healthy, but sounded great. He walked on gilded splinters.
Agreed. Crazy good.

Re: U195 and too many midrange mics

You really need to only keep the mics which outperform other ones. Hopefully, you only keep one Stereo set or an individual mic from each category: LDC 1 - Large Diaphragm tube amplified (U47 type) - over 1" diaphragm, tube preamplifier. LDC 2 - Large Diaphragm solid state (transistor) amplified (Ne...

Re: Finally Acquired Tascam 388 and need Sage Advice!

So I tested it and here are the results... When patched into Ch 1 and routing in the assign section to ch 5 it records to channel 5. When patched into Ch 5 and assigned to channel 1...nothing. It only records on channel 5. I really don’t lknow what it could be. Any suggestions? The issue is after t...

Re: Finally Acquired Tascam 388 and need Sage Advice!

Hi, It seems as though the "Rec Function" buttons may be wanky / shot. Those are just to the left of the tape bay. Do they all light up then pressed? Since you changed the cards, and nothing changed, the issue is further along the signal path, AFTER the cards. Look there, hopefully you have a servic...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band

Just a last thing: I hope at some point you move from Garageband. There is almost no documentation for this play toy type DAW. Like, no way to know what the meter scale is (there are a ton). I would recommend either you get Reaper (free or cheap), or Pro Tools First (free). Many people on here know ...

Note:

ALL Digital devices which use converters from analog to digital are dBFS "deciBels Full Scale".

No exceptions.

Cheers.

PS, you mix with your EARS not your eyes, don't mind the size of the waveforms.

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band

Hey Everyone, I have an update for you on some things I learned. 1. I realized that when transferring from the 388 to garageband via the M-audio M-Track 8, the M-Track 8 channel knobs should be set all the way at zero. All they do seem to do is add extra gain that must be compressed/limited on the ...

Re: Is my situation condusive to a Monitor puchase?

I recommend you do buy some speakers. I highly recommend the JBL 3 Series, they are not expensive and are accurate enough for the price point. Get the 8" speakers, not the 3" ones. They will give you a better bass response. Once you have them, get used to them in your room WITH NO TREATMENT. Listen ...

Reason #1788 as to why doing the final mix in the same room with the director / responsible party is super important.
