Re: Mixing Down to Macbook Air - NO AUDIO INPUT?!

Why on Earth would you trust your mix down to inferior converters on a laptop?

Go get an external converter, literally anything that will work with your laptop.

Re: Sytek no longer making the MPX 4aii?

cosmic - was just remembering my unit which I sold to get a rack of API - and checking if they are still available - they were so good and I really miss em - very forward sounding, neutral but still euphonic - they ought to do a small mixer version with 8 channels nice routing and monitoring and an...

Re: Speeding up a song after tracking without altering pitch

Hi there, I just did a session with a client who now wishes to speed the song up just a hair, without altering the key. It was at 87 bpm and now he would like to try 90 bpm. I know a quick way of doing this in Ableton Live using the warp tool, but when I tried it, it made the vocals sound a bit rob...

They include their DLL and sample code. Fo...

Hi Geoff,

Did you get this sorted out yet?

I have a little time these days, what did you need? If it is not crazy, I can try to help.

Cheers

Re: Click tracks. Love them/Hate them.

My rule for clicks is as follows: If the recording is to be done all at once, everyone together, nearly zero overdubs. Then click is optional. This of course, with COMPETENT musicians. If you are to record parts over several days / studios / one musician at a time, then the click becomes mandatory. ...

Re: dark vs thick - listening to Godrich/Lanois productions

wonder what song this was... Japan CD "Pyramid Song" – 4:51 "Fast-Track" – 3:19 "The Amazing Sounds of Orgy" – 3:38 "Trans-Atlantic Drawl" – 3:03 "Kinetic" – 4:05 I remember working on only three songs, probably three from this one. Another silly thing that happened that time, was that they recorde...

A sarod, an actual medieval harp, firearms of different kinds, guinea pigs.
You can’t say guinea pigs with out a Bandcamp or YouTube’s link. Context is everything.
Soon to be in a Disney movie... so be patient.

Feeler: Left Hand guitars anyone?

ESP Kirk Hammett Limited edition. mad in the early 2000s. If anyone really is interested, I can post pictures and...

Re: No fancy tube mics - am I missing out?

I always believe in having a full set of the different types of microphones whenever possible. Although in Metal and Punk a tube mic may not be used as often, it might still be of use during recording of electric guitar amps, and of background vocals / hushes vocals / as a Mono drum room mic. I love...

Re: reverbs - mono or stereo and why?

I use them from time to time. Making two mono reverbs for example, and panning them differently that the usual 100%. Sometimes, I use a reverb only to accentuate one instrument, and pan it along with that instrument. It gives it more of a ethereal / spacey vibe. Sometimes I do use a Stereo reverb fo...

We used two mics on the drums, as this was how they were liking doing things then.

It was a Shure SM58 inside the kick, and a Bruel & Kjaer omni 4006 about 3 feet above the drummer's head,
placed so it heard approximately what he did.
Less mics, less problems. :)
