Re: Tracks imported from Mackie DL32R are hissing. They weren't before.

I figured it out. It's not the Mackie's fault. It's Audition! Whenever I render the individual wav files as a batch process, it adds noise to random tracks. I have no idea why, but that's where it's happening. I have to render my individual wav files one by one, but it works- without noise! Has any...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band

mastering engineers often clip ADC's (or software or analog outboard) to get a limiting effect that preserves the transient punch rather than using a limiter that will usually soften it / impart its particular unique artifacts - it's a good combination of the two in careful doses (or none of the ab...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band

Well, from now on I shall call my tape transfers "artistic endeavors" LOL. I apologize to everyone for having an opinion made from informed experience. Please, distort everything. All of it. All the time. Cheers. Oh, and let me inform every Mastering engineer I have ever worked with, that they are a...

Re: An Analog Setup for My Needs (Tape Machine Talk)

Hi... em, hithere. I think you are just romanticizing a few recordings done on a Tascam 388, and nothing more. I had a Tascam 388 for a short time, and remember enjoying the effect that machine had on my stuff Yep, a romance with tape. Instead of going through the hassle and expense of tape, because...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band

1) make the 388 sound however you like it the best regardless of anything 2) properly connect the 388 to the ADC (interface) if it's all unbalanced connections use the shortest best quality cable if the interface is balanced input only you'll need to convert it with a transformer on each line for i...

Re: Tips for Dumping 388 > M-Track 8 > Garage Band

What do you all recommend? I tried having my 388 tracks at a healthy level, just kissing the red. I had the interface tracks set mostly in the green but occasionally tipping to the yellow, but that was like 2-3 o clock on the level knobs. Going into garageband that was making a really healthy wave ...

Just remember, if this is Rock N' Roll, then the guitar

MUST BE LOUD.

Everything else is negotiable. But not this one point.

Re: Recording Mac in 2019

Hope things are well up in the mountains! Everything is real good up here!!! Thanks!!! As to your sample libraries, I would get a external drive tower and call it a day. My Mac tower died (both system drives LOL), so it is a pain in the arse to have those things inside the computer. Moving all that...

Re: Recording Mac in 2019

Hi, It all hinges on the DAW you are using. I have a friend who uses the trashcan mac with Logic Pro. If that is your route, I can get you in touch with him, so he can give you tips etc. Otherwise I highly recommend a Mac laptop. Just not the really new ones, and they do not have the connectors you ...

Re: 388 Dumping to Digital? What do I need?

Questions: 1. What computer do you have? Specs please. 2. What operating system is it? 3. Afterwards, are you planning on using this interface a lot of the time? Or just to transfer recordings once they are done on your 388? 4. What is your monitoring setup like? Some interfaces provide software mon...

Re: Pre-Amps Rec's for Instruments and Mics?

...that will add some warmth... Well, this is just distortion. At under $200, you could buy an EHX 12AY7, but methinks this could be too much distortion. Instead, try having something multipurpose, CLEAN sounding, and add the distortion at the source (electric guitars have been known to be paired w...
