Re: MOTU 16A vs Apollo x16 vs ???

Understood. It would be nice to have 10 Neve pre's on the drums just for the hell of it, and still have a Neve left over for vox. And most of my needs / applications are non-pro, hobbyist, demo situations, so I could more likely get away with emulation. Tons of records throughout the 1970s to now w...

Re: MOTU 16A vs Apollo x16 vs ???

Both units are only converters, they do not have any extras in the signal chain like the Apollo units. The Apollo 16's are strictly converters - no preamps. They do have the DSP, which is optional, but if you are paying for UAD it would be crazy not to use it. Ah, good to know. Their marketing simp...

Re: MOTU 16A vs Apollo x16 vs ???

I have been very happy with my Focusrite RedNet 2 with Dante (ethernet audio) 16 channels of IO conversion. As to your supposition of the past 20 years all converters sounding the same... well, no. I beta tested the original Digidesign 192 HD units, and when they came around they were great. I chang...

Re: Question: side chain compression' what, why and how

"Side chain" compression is when you have a compressor afect a track, while being triggered by another track. As others have mentioned examples... I will only give you the one I use. On drumkits. I use a SEND to another auxiliary track, that has this compressor on it. I might send the entire drumklt...

Re: Carpal Tunnel Surgery

Fuck. Good on you. I just lost my wife to breast cancer. It's a merciless disease. After 5 years of visits to the cancer hospital I've come away feeling like it's coming for all of us. Glad you're ok. Sorry to derail. Nick, glad you're doing well too. Not at all. My most sincere condolences to you ...

Don't they have some sort of low latency thing going on now?

See-That's why I Love You All!
I/Silverteens have a drummer that puts his ride 1" above the floor tom,at the back of the floor tom. And he wears earplugs,AND Those shooting range ear goggles. And never closes his high hat. So,this issue is very real to me.
Hide his ear stuff. See what happens.

I remember Steve Albini saying the RNC is as good as other compressors several times its cost, for whatever that’s worth.
I had a pair. They are crazy good for the price.

Re: 16 more channels of analog compression

There are really only a few hardware compressors worth buying: Teletronix LA2A. Urei 1176. Teletronix LA3A. Fairchild 660/670. No, they are not cheap. But, they are the sound of modern music. Try saving up. I have my LA2A. Will never sell it. I did have two 1176s, and sold them. I prefer plug ins fr...

Re: Steinberg Nuendo Area

Really enjoying this DAW.

Stable, stays working for hours on end.

The right click to get all the tools at the mouse is cool.

Crossfading is easy. Editing easy.

Re: Any DAW that supports "grouping" regions for edits?

Well i searched high and low, Logic Pro X does not seem to group regions. LOL.

I know Nuendo does, Cubase does, Pro Tools does.

Re: Doors?

I used a steel French double entry door in my old place. Did a great job.

Forget the brand, but the contractor got it at Home Depot.

I remember, in 2008, it cost some 1K USD plus tax.
