Re: What version of MacOS are you using & Why?

Hi, I have two computers. I put on there "10.8" because that is my main Pro Tools HD mixing system. Here is why I use two computers: A laptop, running 10.13.6, and the latest Pro Tools, Cubase Elements, Reaper. I may get Logic X for it as well, when I need to use it with a client. It has to be the "...

Re: Reverb - show us your spaces...

Nice place!

Exactly like my old garage studio, size wise. Those "nearly two car" garages can be made to be awesome studio spaces.

Congratulations!!!

For PEAKS. In the end, the AVERAGE is around whatever the hell it is, depending on the program material. LOL.

Re: Broadcast-Quality? for SiruisXM

I've been doing an XM radio / music show for a client for over 15 years. My levels are always, for music, -4 dBFS. For dialog, about the same, probably less than that. Not a lot of limiting on my end, just use a Waves L2 plug in st to -1dB threshold, -0.2 output limit, for safety. Usually, the voice...

Re: Flood Recovery

Man that sucks. Go get cans and cans of WD40. Put it on anything that can rust for now. After a while, go through and clean the WD 40 off. This will force the water off the metal. (don't put in potentiometers etc). CAIG also has some good stuff for cleaning / restoring potentiometers, if you need to...

Only if it is the factory, anti static bag.

Otherwise, ditch it.

Re: Filevault2 on later-era macs

Never used filevault. Never will.

I probably also will never use the version 2.0 of this.

Cheers, and good luck with this.

Re: Pro Quality Podcast Setup

I'd go for something handheld like a Zoom or something. Then just teach him how to upload the audio from the device straight to computer then to you. He can either put it between himself and another person, or point it at the person being interviewed. If you end up making it more than this, it will ...

Re: Let's talk substance

Coffee in the morning, up to two (large) cups. After that, I'm sober AF while engineering. I just can't get stuff done while on anything. While mixing, SUGAR is needed to feed the brain. It consumes up to 30% of your calories. So, I tend to eat a little more, and have snacks laying around the studio.

Re: When you love a LIMITER

I do like the Waves SSL emulation's limiters. Close enough to the console's ones. Makes mixing drums actually possible. Other limiters? The 1176 in the fastest mode possible, for some crazy guitar parts. Like a few here, I only have limiters work more in the loudest parts of the performance. I do no...

Re: Issues with Studiomaster mixer

I think a new transformer would be a good start. I've noticed the noise in the main channel out's only comes on after the mixer has been running for a while. Maybe heat related? Most likely bad capacitors in the power supply. They are not quite yet failing, but they are announcing their impending d...
