Thanks for your answer. But I am more looking for "illustrative" mixes (assuming this word exists :) ), that is, mixes in which one can point things for me to specifically listen to. In a sense I don't mind if they sound good or bad - all that counts is that I can pinpoint what makes the sound I am ...

Can anyone recommend some "reference" mixes?
Hi everybody. This thread is a clone of ons I started on GS.com. In more than a week I only had one answer, so I am trying my luck here... I am discovering the joys of mixing right now and I need to have my ears trained a bit. My problem is that when I listen to a given song I can't isolate each sin...

Re: Black Lion Micro ADC (aka "Swallow")?
Mornin' They're here! Did anyone give an ear to these? I like the idea of having simple gear such as that. And if it is half as decent as what they claim, I could give in to another G.A.S attack :) ... Could any Tape Op contributer review them? Hello and congrats! I think you mean.." Sparrow".... :...

I just re-read your auction. "The only thing I really liked to record with this mic is violin. " might sound a bit... unattractive? What's the use of a mic that is stated to be good only to record strings? Most people looking in this price range would rather buy a proclaimed * Highly versatile thoug...

FS in Europe: M-Audio Solaris in Mint condition!
Mint condition, saw very little use, absolutely no high SPL, and had a happy life so far in a non-smoking environment. On sale now to buy a Sputnik. Pictures are here . My price is 229.00? (street price is about 300? here in France) but I'll consider any decent offer. Shipping fee is to be discussed...

chandler germanium compressor, i recently got one and love it on vocals. Hmmm.... I've been lurking on this one for some time now. Definitely on top of my "To Buy" list. http://cgi.ebay.com/Universal-Audio-UA-Teletronix-LA-2A-LA2A-Compressor-NR_W0QQitemZ190217808279QQihZ009QQcategoryZ23793QQssPageN...

This may not be what you want to hear [...] This is exactly what I want to hear/read! I need advice, so I appreciate your answer. If the consensus here is that I should wait until I have the money to buy serious stuff, then I'll think twice before buying anything. That's mostly why I wrote that I w...

Recommended compressor for voice recording?
Good Morning. Here's my setup for recording my voice: Mics: sm57, sm81 (yes, I do!) and M-Audio Solaris. Preamp: Moded PreSonus MP20 - swapped the input opamps for LT1357. The sound is very clear, detailed, with not much coloration. A/D: M-Audio Firewire Solo (* Cough * Don't blame - I'm going to ch...

Re: M-Audio Solaris Mod?
Man, I almost won a pair of M-Audio Solaris on Ebay for $230! but some douche bag jumped in at the last minute and got it for $232. I don't remember crying that hard in a long time. Not really, but seriously. $232 for a pair?!? Wow, I got mine for $195 and I thought that was a bargain already... :c...

M-Audio Solaris Mod?
Hi.
I have a brand new Solaris (that I like a lot btw). Reading about it here and there, it seems to me that the capsule is pretty good and I suspect that improving the electronics could build up an even nicer piece of gear.
Does anyone know of a modification I could do?
