D50 has only 1/8" mini mic ins. H4N has XLR H4n allows both XLR and built in mics use at same time. Sound Devices are F'n gorgeous but in a much higher price bracket. Ive never had need to use anything but the built in condensers on the D50. They are good sounding, quiet, have wide response, and ta...

The Sony units look very high quality. However for the price the inability to function as a backup soundcard kind of kills it for me. I am travelling to NYC in a few weeks and dont need to be carrying 2 different boxes that do almost the same thing! Ive also heard good things about the Sound Device...

There are many contenders, but an excellent performance/cost item right now -- Musicians Fiend is closing out the Shure KSM-27 at 200 bucks a pop.

I didnt see it mentioned, so I'll recommend the Trace Elliot Velocette. Fine small amp. Will drive a 4X12 well too in the event you want a little more stage volume.

They turn up on ebay from time to time.

i'm just going to be using it to record through a countryman DI...should i even mess with putting in new pickups?
Theyre quite nice -- especially for rock n roll. Ive never had a need to mess with them on any of the P-basses I've owned.

Uhm, it's a joke. I mean, running vocals direct? How would you do that? Seriously.

Re: Anyone know a good cheap way to record phone calls?

Keep in mind, it's also illegal to record a phone conversation without telling the person on the other end that you're doing it. Just my $.02. Actually, no, it's only illegal to tape record a conversation if neither of the parties knows. Broadcasting or publishing that convo is another story entire...

Don't get the e34L Tesla's either, apparently it's a different tube electrically than a el34 that doesn't sound so hot. Yeah, gotta disagree here -- I've got JJ Tesla E34L's in both my Marshalls and they sound spot on. I really like those Chinese "Silver Star" 12AX7s too. HOT tubes -- very high gai...

Re: For those of us who can't go to TapeOpCon...

I can't even imagine how much someone who has the entire weekend for just the conference can learn given the openess and sharing that TapeOpCon has come to represent. Music has become cold and impersonal enough. It does not mean we should be and I think that is the main reason we are not that eager...

i thought it might be a bad stop button, but it stops neither with the remote nor by the button on the transport itself. I live in dc; apparently the best tech around (john frye?) recently passed away...if you know of any other techs in the area, i'd love to have their info. thanks. Try Music Techn...
