I also saw a Nord Modular on ebay going for close to 1600 a couple days ago. Wikipedia also notes these units start about 700 used. Anyway. I'm acutally going to keep the Micro for awhile, put together a dedicated OS 9 Mac as an editor/Intellivision emulator/Rebirth-338 Toy. Perhaps someday I'll sel...

+1 for BoC! In the past TapeOp has covered some great electronic artists: The Books. Matthew Herbert. And most recently Moby. It's also relevent here that Ableton Live is featured in Behind the Gear this month. It seems apparent to me TapeOp has no qualms about branching out into TechnoLand. Hence, ...

If & When I move to Sunset Park, BRKLN
Greetings! I've been living and working in Brooklyn for the past six years. My lady and I are looking to move to Sunset Park and I am trying to find a place to set up my humble project studio where it'll be safe and accessible whenever I want. I'm not finding anything but "Artist studio lofts availa...

Logic guy here
I too am a Logic-geek and get by fine with the stock plugs. Then I added on all the Sonnox stuff (native) and LOVE em all! I'd say the most random thing that surprised me while demoing them was the expander + gate sections In Dynamics; so precise - lots of fun. The SuprEssor has saved my butt more t...

much of the micromanaging you're talking about - I hope - I've been able to overcome since I started this morning. My approach thus far is using the Oxford Dynamics plug-in; compresses -3dB occasionaly, limiter kicks in even less occasionally. Then I automated the quieter passages upwards. All in al...

In Pro Tools, the fader level affects the track after the channel inserts, so if you want to hear exactly what you're automating you should make automation passes after putting on a compressor. Or you could run the vox through a bus and compress on the return and automate the vocal track, and that ...

taming is about losing the softer passages in the mix. I'm beginning to think I should invert my approach. Rather than suppressing the loud parts, I should raise the softer parts. The dynamcis are very musical; fast crescendos and smooth decrescendos. It's why I'm being so cautious. Originally these...

Automating vox levels vs compression
Hi. This is my first post - and it's about mixing (and it's posted in the recording forum... hope that's cool.) I've been debating in my head over a particular track I'm working on. The lead vocal is great as is - no compression and a skosh of eq. It's great, but in context with the rest of the mix,...
