I'm no uber authority - I just own a 2882. People swear by the ULN-2's pre's so a whole converter box plus 8 great preamps in one is probably not a terrible deal. Especially if you had the luxury to try one out and determine if the ULN-8 preamps will be all you will ever need. It just seems a better...

Okay, I'm an idiot that pays no attention. I will leave it at this: the 2882 is a lovely converter, the stock preamps are way useful, and is super cheap right now used. So it seems you could save at least a couple thousand by going 2882 and eight channels of outboard of your choosing. Of course, if ...

I would recommend the 2882. They're giving away the non-DSP version ($650 for the last used one on ebay). You have badass preamps. I've done way passable rock recordings exclusively on the 2882's built in pre's. The guitars not so much, but the low end stuff, yes. It is a low end, 'depth' machine. I...

Okay, Romeo and Juliet nailed it. That is the instrument! Perfect. All my life I've had the suspicion that sound was dobro but had it in my head they were only set up for slide. Perfect for what I want to do as far as picking and short, sharp strumming. I already have my Peaceful Easy Feeling dreadn...

Looking for a "throaty" acoustic
Something opposite of sweet, compressed, glossy and shimmering. A mid-range only machine.

SM57's have suffered the most damage out of most any mic I've been around. The case of a 57 is no doubt hardcore and there's not a lot to shake on the inside, but that weird "collar" that the windscreen attaches to is a pain and worries me. The windscreen cap is also really brittle and is easy to br...

A deposit is a good idea if any amount of time or resources went into even schematics, but I still think if the extent was just a phone call then you should at least try - even if he posted a disclaimer. That's just what I would do. The worst that will happen is he'll get mad and still be $150 richer.
