I wouldn't sweat the "multiple conversions" thing. That was a fear that originated in the early days of bad digital conversion. These days, with modern converters, you can make multiple trips out of and into digital and you'll still be fine. Then again, I'm always more concerned with how things soun...

I heard that sometimes tape speed can not be accurate, so you can run into issues, as well as tape stretching, etc. Yes. If you print to tape, and then in a separate pass, print back to digital, then drift/sync will be an issue. So just hitting the tape and immediately recording off of the repro he...

If you're just running drums out to tape and back in off the repro head in one pass, you can still line it up with the digital only tracks. Just slide your drums back the distance between the record and repro head. Should be fine.

In my opinion, it depends on which interface you intend to use. With DP and a MOTU interface, you get basically zero latency direct monitoring, without any separate "mixer" app or hoops to jump through. The DP/MOTU interface combo gets you closest to the fully-integrated workflow that is very simila...

I'd get three API 3124 units (12 badass channels) and some kind of nice monitor controller. Under $10k for pres you'll never outgrow.

PoNOPE. What a joke. I thought he was going to revolutionize THE DELIVERY FORMAT. Now, he's just making a cumbersome portable player with some audiophile-ish components, that plays files that other players already play. It's really kind of sad. He began his SXSW talk with the ridiculously up-his-own...

Yeah, it really depends on where you're coming from and what kind of contingency plan you have. If I was using an iLok for live performance, I can assure you that there would never exist a circumstance where I wouldn't be able to perform because of a defective iLok. I would have ZDT and a spare on h...

In the 33 1/3 book about Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea", it says that the version of "Oh Comely" that made the album, was a take when Jeff Mangum was simply testing mic levels. Thankfully, tape was rolling. 9 minutes later, they had captured a truly magical take. If you crank t...

Congratulations, altho' I want to note that's a kinda unfortunate thread title ... I mean, the whole band? What's so "unfortunate" about it? It's fine by me. Too bad they didn't rock the opening ceremonies in Sochi. I was gonna say something similar, but then I realized, hey, it's the aug...

Yeah, there are a few other ways. I just updated to Reason 7. It's got some kind of new authorization scheme where you can store your authorization on a computer or a dongle, and also authorize per use via the internet.

The same thing happened to me recently. In my case, I bought a replacement locally, and had my new permanent licenses within about 3 days of shipping them mine (next day shipping.) Now, I have Zero Down Time. I know that value is relative. But, now, a few months later, $30/year seems dirt cheap to a...
