And the mic's a Donner, so you know it comes to party. (I bet it eats other mics for lunch too.)

That looks awesome! My last one is in the works--finished painting the case today, just have to get it all wired up.

Tascam MF-P01 4 Track Cassette
SLOD******Tascam MF-P01 Portastudio. Very basic 4 track cassette recorder. Shows a little cosmetic wear. The tape counter reset button is damaged, but it can be operated with a ball point pen or other pointy object. Works as it should. ---- SLOD

In the prosumer category, the Tapco 4400 is pretty cool. It takes up a lot of space though. I'm sure people want hundreds for those now too.
And there's its relative, the Electro-Voice EVT4500. Mono, but takes up far less rack space.

Re: Hamptone gain block / mic preamp article
The Soyuz box says it has 2 transformers in each signal path, so maybe they have a 1: x input, followed by a switchable gain circuit, followed by an x :1 output transformer. (EDIT: possibly one of the transformers is 1:1, and that's all that's used in "line" mode or whatever they call it.) It looks ...

Re: Hamptone gain block / mic preamp article
Why a fixed gain mic preamp? A fixed gain preamp is not at all uncommon. Lots of classic designs consist of one or more fixed gain amps with some form of resistive attenuation (pad, pot, or fader) before, between, or after the fixed gain stage(s). Adding an input pad to this design is nothing more ...

Wood panel(ing) is far classier than my spraypaint and waterslide decals. Nice work!

Re: Hamptone gain block / mic preamp article
Great looking builds. individually biasing each fet or sorting them so that uniform values could be used. As the schematic notes, adjust the value of R1 for 12 or 13 volts. I socketed R1, but Scodiddly says you can just drop a resistor in place without soldering and measure the voltage (I have diff...

I get it. I wonder if we had online subscription stuff in place that made updating difficult? Ummmmm....yeah. It was a bit of a torment in the early 2000s to stay subscribed, or do anything with a subscription as I recall. There were times when I had to resort to buying the mag on the newsstand bec...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I finished the first of my Scodiddly mic booster/preamp thing. Simple circuit, easy to build. This one has a Bozak transformer on the front end. Lots of gain. Initial testing suggests it plays well with ribbons.
