Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I decided to build a DI--somehow that'd never happened before. I had a smallish transformer that came from somewhere, piddled around with it until I got more or less what I wanted. Sounds good on bass, with a little more level than the simple Triad A-11J DI that I mostly use. Installed in the former...

Re: Thank you for Tom Wilson and Nate Smith

I can't remember what compelled me, but I had done some reading about Tom Wilson online about a month ago. I probably first heard about him when I was a teenager obsessively reading the liner notes to Zappa's "Freak Out!" album. And of course Wilson has a whispered monologue on the "We're Only In It...

the two lowest “signal” LEDs on the first channel are persistently it up.
Is the first channel by any chance the closest to the power supply?

I could play first thing in the early morning before anyone else was up and it wasn't so loud that it would disturb anyone. Beautiful little gems.
Good for playing late at night when the kid's asleep as well. It has a lovely unamplified sound IMO.

Re: Anybody wishing they had a project.

I had a couple over the years. Probably both would qualify as projects. I do like 'em but they're space hogs (when space is at a premium, which it generally is for me), and they do tend to require some attention. The guy's price is less than you'd pay for the pedal and the legs, so no issues on that...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

So my wannabe mixer/8-channel preamp doesn't have phantom power, so I needed something external. I picked up a Stewart 4 channel phantom box on the cheap, thinking it couldn't be that bad, right? Well, it was. Besides have super-crappy electrolytic caps installed, it delivered a different voltage on...

Re: Mentoring and Giving Mix Feedback

Maybe the chief lesson for people asking for mix feedback is that mixing ain't easy? That there's a reason to hire experienced professionals to do the job? OTOH, I am a home recording type, & over the past year of recording pandemically, I guess the two biggest things have been to get jiggy with the...

but did for a moment welcome the opportunity to laugh,
I don't think you appreciate how dire this situation is. Lives are potentially at stake--indeed, we could even be looking at a complete collapse of the time-space continuum--and all you can do is make with the funny. I am beyond disgusted.

Re: Date and Time Anomalies

I live for those experiences, see. First, that's kind of sad. Second, it doesn't explain why the un logged-in default would be different from the logged-in default. Just to let people know (well, ones more observant than I) that there are options? And now that I know I can change the date & time se...

Thanks for ruining the mystery for me. And here I was thinking it was the Bermuda Triangle of the audio world.

Date and Time Anomalies

So when I come to the board, not logged in, the date reads, "May 7." When I log in, it goes all "07.05.21" as if I were some kind of European or something. On top of that, the current time shifts by 2 hours--and neither is the correct time for where I am. None of this really bothers me, but I'm puzz...

Re: Should it stay or should it go?

Mine is the XL404 "Plate Synthesizer", which I don't see quite as many out there. It is less "springy" than the others, for sure. Maybe that's what makes the others more useful in a world where "realistic" reverbs are plentiful in-the-box, but odd and quirky springs are less so. Roger The XL404 loo...
