Hmm... how could Tape Op be better? That's easy. Make it a monthly publication. How about a weekly publication? Hmmm... daily? I can't get enough of it. To make it better I just want more. :) Amen. oh, a maybe every other issue could come with like a free piece of gear, like 1 month a U47, t...

Re: Get off your Recording High Horse
People, Make music anyway you can, for as long as you can, having as much fun as you can, any way you want to. Just do it. Gimme analog, gimme digital, just let me record.[/quote] Right on, thanks for contributing to the thread. It seemed this discussion had wittled down to nit-picking and the ol Im...

yeah, if you look at the AT freq chart, they give pretty different graphs for the 4050 and 4040. To my ears, there is very little difference. For the extra 200 bucks or whatever they are charging, i woul,d opt for the 4040 over the 4050, unless pattern switches are really that big of a deal to your ...

It's my opinion that lousy sounding drums makes everything sound bad, even if you have recorded the holy grail of guitar sounds. I agree. If the drums are cloudy, phasey, or otherwise poorly tracked/mixed, then its hard to get any other instruments to sit nicely within the mix. I focus on the snare ...

there is humor in that those who can't make decisions in their engineering/producing aren't able to stick to one idea or opinion, on a messageboard. So leaving a couple options now to audition at mix time has now been reduced to "those who cant make decisions in their engineering/producing". I suppo...

the central issue here is that having options at mix time isnt negative, or counter productive. OK then, let's try an experiment. I'll mix an album's worth of songs with 5 or 6 guitar tracks per song, and you do the same with 427 guitar tracks per song. My album will be mixed, mastered, and back fr...

They continue to create an art that is acceptable to release, being close to what they have invisioned inside their imaginative genius (yes, I dig Blake). William or Tchad? Chris Garges Charlotte, NC Bill, of course. I havent stumbled upon Tchad's reworking of the Marriage of Heaven and Hell, thoug...

First off, who in the hell is actually doing 300 trial takes to see what will work come mix time. Who has time, and/or patience for that. Doesn't that simply equate to "more options," for which you are arguing? Why not a thousand trial takes? Why not ten thousand? Hell, why ever finish anything whe...

First off, who in the hell is actually doing 300 trial takes to see what will work come mix time. Who has time, and/or patience for that. At some point, you have to have the song written and arranged before extreme recording takes place. That being said, lets go back to the Beatles, since they have ...

The idea that this is an analog vs. digital thing is complete nonsense. There were plenty of records from the analog days that had a second Studer slaved for extra things to have as "options". No, this is about how experienced and confident people work, vs. the way people banging their heads against...
