Would that be Village Discount Outlet, near the Hasty Tasty Pancake House?

Yes! For $5, you can't go wrong. As a young lad, I used to plug my guitar into the family hi-fi through the mic inputs of the cassette deck. I imagine the mic ins are expecting a high-impedance crappy radio shack mic level. I think you'll have to stick a tape in there and hit record (or record & pau...

also, SVHS IIRC was 4 tracks of audio. You had the svhs part of the audio, presumabley helically recorded along with the video, and 2 more tracks of audio presumably recorded on the edges of the tape. I have seen guys use these as 4track decks, though the other two tracks were only ever meant for p...

BNC is the same as coaxial cable, so, just get a coax to bnc adapter from some store and hook it into a cheap video camera and make music videos.
Do you think just a cable will do?

We're camera-shy.

Yes... This is the kind of thread that makes TOMB great. Please, somebody help me out here... I have a pro-grade JVC S-VHS deck with separate inputs for "Hi-Fi" and "Normal" audio. I've been using it to record band practice, with regular VHS tapes. "Normal" works great (and sounds pretty good) but I...

How about replacing the print head on one of those old printers with a tape head? It would zip along a page-wide strip of tape, either depositing or retrieving a signal. Maybe there would be a way to control delay/playback time by "printing" different patterns, faster or slower, etc. Actually, what ...

I'm not equipped to take on this job, but I am in Brooklyn, and very curious... Can I watch?

I, too, would like to meet and talk with a local person willing to take on a job like this.

I uploaded a couple of videos to Youtube. Sorry about the poor quality, I'm still figuring this stuff out. I have one of the 35-Watt Bogen Challengers. It would be great if any/all of you posted back here with repair and/or modification updates; I'd like to follow along on my own. I posted some photos here: http://flickr.com/photos/powerrecordings/2209439471/ There are more if you search for "bogen chall...

If the machine is a "hi-fi" VCR, and made after the mid-eighties, I believe the 2 audio tracks are helical. They did a thing where the audio tracks are beneath the video signal on the tape. It's 2 tracks of high-quality analog audio. Don't let the ADAT association freak you out. It seems like it mig...

I think the tape guts of Hi-Fi VCR's should be considered for this. It's easy to get your hands on one (or more) of these. The half-inch tape is bigger and probably sturdier than eighth-inch cassette tape, and the two-track audio is also superior to regular cassette. I've been experimenting a little...

One of my bandmates plugged in his new iPhone to the practice room stereo (an old JVC receiver) and it seemed to override the function switches on the amp. Anybody ever experience this? We have a stereo mini-plug > stereo RCA adapter for plugging in iPods, and laptops, and whatever. You have to punc...

Apologies, DIY Delay Heads, I was away for a few. re: motor engagement It seems most of the tape decks do in fact have motor-engaged heads. The Sankyo does not, it has what I think are called "piano keys" or something like that, where the lever action lifts the heads. I prefer those for the "real ti...

I'm not sure about motor engagement... Can you explain what you mean exactly? Here's some more info: Technics M234X On top in the previous photo. Can't remember exactly what's wrong with this one. Realistic SCT-90 On the bottom in the previous photo. I believe this one works fine but plays slow. (Or...
