Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer

I was just kidding. It's slightly embarrassing to ask persistent questions about widely reviled pieces of gear, I should know. At least there's no obnoxious answers like "the only way to use it properly is to throw it out" type answers, so common on other forums. Those are neither clever nor helpful...

Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer

Great, thank you.

It doesn't look like it has anything approaching "true bypass" right?

Could I wire an extra "bypass" switch that just jumpers in the inputs directly to the outputs?

BBE Sonic Maximizer

I'm picking up where the old, locked thread left off... old thread: https://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14214&hilit=BBE+362 I just so happen to be among the lucky few who have been able to secure one of these rare, highly-regarded pieces of outboard gear. Many people are saying this ...

Luckily we have Russ @ NJ Factory Service who is a wizard of TEAC / Tascams.

I'd check with Russ first, then buy a cheap machine and send it straight to him.
When you get it back it will be clean, calibrated, and up to factory spec.

You can probably experiment with the VHS option after investing about $5 at your local thrift store.

Just make sure it says "hi-fi" on there, and that it has stereo RCA ins and outs.

You could probably score one of these machines for free if you look around.

It's probably the old (original) one. That's what I had. I've never used the VLZ ones, so I can't compare.

The Mackie 1604 has a lot of functionality packed into it.
And there's a whole book you can buy to learn about all of it.
I did this for years.

If you want to save some bucks, that thing will get you where you need to go.

That board was great because I left 8 channel ins and 8 channel outs always connected, with RCA to 1/4" 3' snakes. I use a 238 too, and I think this is key. Look for a cheap 16-channel board. You should be able to take direct outs for 1-8 (maybe using inserts/sends) and then use 9-16 for playback. ...

My understanding is that ISRCs must remain married to the track, but they don't denote sequence or running order or anything. The year is in there, but that's really it. Sometimes we assign ISRCs prior to sequencing and as a result, the codes will end up out of order on the album. It's convenient wh...
