This is just my subjective opinion. It's a venerable name, but also not always known for absolute sonic excellence, IMO.
It feels wrong to name and shame on such a prominent platform.
DM me if you really are serious about wanting to know.
You're way too polite.

chorus lead vocals and backing vocals went into a plate reverb panned hard left, and a hall reverb panned hard right.
That's pretty crazy.

You're describing my holy grail.
It's for sale. $200 obo, comes with some good cabling too.
Now I'm dying to know the manufacturer of this board.

I spent about a week trying different mics, different positions, different bass drums etc. Until I realized that my mixer was basically like summing 16 rat pedals.
Whoa, you should post that as an online review! Hilarious.

Re: how to strip really small wires

This might be obvious, and useless.... my proper electrical engineering skills are limited, as are my bench hours.... Anyhow, they make wire cutter tools for electricians and such with graduated gauges of wire stripping holes. Once you dial in the right number to use it's pretty dummy proof. Not the...

Trying to record my 26", mostly unmuffled, marching bass drum has led me to throw out one mixer and I'm searching for a new one. So, you could try that.
Did you try moving the mic?

Re: I have high end console

When I think of the folks who make pretty sounding records with high end consoles, they could make equally great sounding records with some nice odds and ends outboard stuff and some plugins. The big fancy console is "just" 24-48 nice pres and eqs. You could use a half dozen nice 500 series pres and...

Re: How long does it take you to mix?

Another BIG issue is the artist's insecurity, which directly leads to indecision. I find this gets worse as the project nears completion. Everyone loves tracking basics, they start nit picking a bit as they do overdubs and fixes. Then transitioning into mixing they need a therapist. This can cause ...

Re: Live Off the Floor in a Small Room

I don't know if it's a good or bad thing when I want to hit a 'like' button for something on a forum. It probably means my mind is rotting and I don't have anything intelligent to contribute other than enthusiasm. But....

Re: Limiter on rough mixes

Also, def no reason to normalize anything going to mastering. If I get a file peaking up at zero, the first thing I do (after listening to it) is turn it down. Don't worry, Scott. I like your work too much to try and muck it up. My plan for the 'to be mastered' folder is to bounce it at 24-bit/48k ...

Re: Limiter on rough mixes

I just realized that in all of my years, nothing in my process of preparing tracks has included anything you would call 'normalization'. Like to the point where I'm wondering if there's some fundamental steps on the back half of mixing down tracks that I'm not even aware of because I never became in...

Re: Anyone use Waves Tune in Pro Tools 2019 (aka 12) successfully?

It's kind of a RAM hog. Take what I say with a grain of salt, because I use very few plugins (more hardware) and the ones I have were made ten years ago+ (Waves renaissance eq mostly) and my computer was state of the art Intel processing back in 2010. I bought Waves Tune to clean up a couple of horn...

Re: Sharing GarageBand Files

Yeah, that's weird that they don't make it handier. I also hate iphoto, and the updated versions of itunes while we're at it.

Rendering those tracks is exceedingly boring work, but it probably will only take them 5 minutes per song, depending on their track count and processing power.

Re: Sharing GarageBand Files

I don't know beans about Garage Band, but as the only person in the universe who uses Sony Vegas as a tracking platform, I've had to learn how to deal with sharing things with people who use different platforms. The best bet is to have them solo every track and render it from a 00:00 marker to the e...

Re: Online Guitar Lessons

I “know” most of that but has been a long time since I’ve formally approached that stuff, could use a refresh on terminology and could definitely stand to learn direct application on guitar. I know chords and scales on guitar but not as well as i do/did on piano. I learned theory on wind instrument...
