posting full album - daytime volume

hey guys, i just finished a pet project of mine that has been going on for almost 3 years. i'm streaming the whole record @ www.problemsolvingskills.org i'd be curious to get some feedback. this was recorded at home but tweaked at several cool studios (tiny telephone and jackpot to name a few) enjoy...

I think a lot of the truly talented musicians / songwriters I know "suck at life"... they would be the first to admit to that. I think it's a good article, but it barely touches on the reasons why home studios are killing creativity. I think it is a slump that some get into, some don't. The main thi...

what about the oblique strategies card that says-
"when faced with a choice... do both"
??

i've said it a few times during sessions and gotten weird looks from everyone, so i think i'll try the quarter idea next time.

Why hasn't any one mentioned the EV 634a?? This mic has been my secret weapon for a few years. I love it on acoustic guitar and vocals. It is omni and doesn't have a lot of hi end, but there is a nice bump somewhere in the upper mids that sounds great. I got one off ebay a few years ago for 12 bucks...

I love recording strings. My approach has been pretty different each time I've had the opportunity... but on my last session I had pretty good success with ribbons. I used two 121s as a Blumlein pair on cello which sounded fanstastic... but we took great care in finding the right spot in the room. I...

I think it sounds better as well. I'm not sure why. Older mixes that I have pulled up seem to have more separation and depth than before (i know those are dangerous words when referring to mixing in the box) My biggest new discovery is the options within the export window. It is much easier to expor...

You dont by chance have access to a Spectrasonics 610 Complimiter do you?
If so, dub as many claps as you like, pre mix to taste, then run them all out to a mono track thru this compresser.

you'll like it.

i'm doing it this weekend.

I've been having fun with my funkenwerk v78M lately. been sounding great on snare and vocals. The funkenwerk has so many tonal options... after putting new tubes in my peavey vmp2 i realized why this was my "go to" pre for so long, and the peavey is nice when you throw a pad on the output... tube di...

Re: no money for a u47...but

AT4050 all the way.

Very useful as a vocal mic, AND as a room mic, and sounds great on acoustic guitar.... and just about anything else.

because of the switchable patterns you can get really creative with your placement and find some coool sounds.

doing it faster, better, and smarter

Ok guys... the latest issue of EQ had 100 tips for this. (this might be the first issue of EQ that I have honestly found useful in quite sometime). I'm guessing the board can come up with 100+ more tips that will help out all of us. (whaddya know, joel hamilton contributed my fav 10 tips.) I?ve been...

Re: mic preamp christmas rightousness

What condensor mic? What type of music do you record? Are you recording to a DAW? There's a lot of factors involved in choosing a mic pre. What price range?? My first external pre was a Peavey VMP2 tube pre. I have since purchased numerous others... (including neve and api pre's) But I'm still in lo...

Re: headphone mic

wrap the headphones around your torso, craknk the gain... and listen to your heartbeat... pretty cool and useful sometimes. you'd be surprised how much low end information you can get out of your heart. sample that and double it up with a kick drum sample.... can't think of anything more organic tha...
