Why hasn't any one mentioned the EV 634a?? This mic has been my secret weapon for a few years. I love it on acoustic guitar and vocals. It is omni and doesn't have a lot of hi end, but there is a nice bump somewhere in the upper mids that sounds great. I got one off ebay a few years ago for 12 bucks...

You dont by chance have access to a Spectrasonics 610 Complimiter do you?
If so, dub as many claps as you like, pre mix to taste, then run them all out to a mono track thru this compresser.

Very useful as a vocal mic, AND as a room mic, and sounds great on acoustic guitar.... and just about anything else.


because of the switchable patterns you can get really creative with your placement and find some coool sounds.

What condensor mic? What type of music do you record? Are you recording to a DAW? There's a lot of factors involved in choosing a mic pre. What price range?? wrap the headphones around your torso, craknk the gain... and listen to your heartbeat... pretty cool and useful sometimes. you'd be surprised how much low end information you can get out of your heart. sample that and double it up with a kick drum sample.... can't think of anything more organic tha...
