I was lucky enough to see this at the AFM Local 47 Union Hall here in Los Angeles. Most of the people interviewed in the movie were there: Hal Blaine, Carol Kaye, etc. One young bass player went up to Carol and said that he played bass - she said "Did you learn using my instructional materials?" The...

Another L.A. 'opper here. Don't do too much recording anymore, but work at a music copyist's office - get to go to scoring sessions from time to time.
Next Beer Night L.A. - post it here and I might show. There must be a number of us out here. We could fill a bar. Or at least a table.

Bridge
Elvis Costello is master of the bridge. Clubland is just the first example that comes to mind.

Cars/Blondie
Rundgren's Cars are touring with Blondie. I'm such a Rundgren fan, I have to see this! We'll see. Could be amazing, could be so-so. Just got my tickets today for the show in Universal City (L.A.)

Intro to Beach Boys "California Girls" (it weirds me out - in a good way)

Re: Any Lindsey Buckingham fans out there?
If you like the Buckingham/Nicks team, try to find a copy of their (only?) pre-Fleetwood Mac album together. As far as I know, it has never been released on CD (except for some "imports" that are just bootleg copies of the LP). You'll know you have the right one 'cause you'll see the couple topless ...

Can anybody still get Mr. Phipps Pretzel Chips? I haven't seen them in NY/NJ in about 10 years.

Re: bitchin' music shops in SF Bay area?
and... for your LP and CD needs... you absolutely MUST go to Amoeba Records (there's one on Haight Street and another in Berkeley) and Rasputin (in Berkeley). I was in SF last week. I spent more than an hour - three days in a row at Amoeba. Half of the CD's are used and really cheap! The place is en...

Re: Ride, Captain, Ride
yeah, i love that record (blues image - "open") it sounds incredible. and, as far as i can tell, it's never been released on CD. if you like the way Ride Captain Ride sounds, look for the LP at used record stores - it's really some nice blues rock. the guitar playing (and tone) is great.

Re: Good guitar / music shops in NYC?
There are many instrument stores around 48th St between 6th & 7th Avenues (Manhattan). The biggest one is probably Sam Ash. Also, there are a few guitar stores in the village. This is the only one coming to mind right now: http://www.umanovguitars.com/ Just across the river in New Jersey: http://www...

Re: Prog-Rock Fans?
yes - I never understood why we are supposed to be embarrassed to admit that we like pro-rock. so what if it's self-indulgent, etc.?
i love the stooges as much as the next guy, but sometimes classically-trained rock musicians make great music too!
