Recording Electric Bass Questions

I was wondering about a couple of things, as follows: 1.I am aware that there are distortion devices for electric bass. I guess you could use any guitar pedal, such as an Ibanez Tube Screamer, MXR Distortion Plus, or any of the many other pedals available, as well as any bass specific device. What I...

Hey Everyone, I thank you for all of your replies. The information provided was helpful. I put this same query out on gearslutz.com and tascamforums.com. One reply I found interesting and worth passing on concerned lighter fluid to clean strings and preserve life. It is as follows: A while back, I r...

Unused Guitar String Life

These days, guitar strings by some manufacturers are in a sealed package, which I believe will keep them just as good as new until the package is opened. This begs the question on how long UNUSED guitar strings last. Don't know if you are like me, but I have some unused strings that have been laying...

Confusion About Using Delay

I am a bit confused about deployment of delay. I read a book that recommends timing a delay to the beats per minute (BPM) of a song, which makes sense. Also, in my experiments, things sound good putting delay on a vocal or acoustic guitar from say 60 to100ms for a tape slap type effect. My confusion...

Hey guys, I thank all of you for your responses. I have been working with a standalone Tascam 788 recorder, and the only outboard gear I had until now was a Digitec Guitar Processor (distortion, reverb, etc.) and an Alesis Quadraverb (reverb, chorus, etc.). With those, I simply ran guitar or a Mic i...

Thanks, ubertar. That's helpful information. I'll have to try out the reverse usage of the transformer, and I'll keep the level low enough to be safe, as you recommended.

Stupid Hi-Impedence Transformer Question?

I was wondering if you can use a Hi-Impedence Transformer backwards? In other words, instead of using it in a conventional manner (like where you have a microphone connected to one side of an XLR cable, and the other side of the XLR connected to a transformer (Shure Model A95UF, in this case), which...

As far as the sequence of songs and space in between songs, there is some good information on this in the book, Mastering Audio the art and the science second edition by Bob Katz (Focal Press). Specifically, there is a good amount of information in chapter 7, entitled "Putting the Album Together". O...

Roland VG-88 vs. VG-99 and VG Strat

Does anyone know what additional features the VG-99 has over the VG-88? Basically, I am interested the capability of a VG Strat, but I am hoping I can get that with a VG-88, as I already have a guitar with a Roland GK2A synth pickup. I am looking for (in order of importance) decent 12 string emulati...

Sorry about the screw up with my first ever use of an emoticon. If anyone wants to let me know how you get rid of the java script notation, feel free to let me know. Maybe I could have just removed it with the delete key?

Larry: I have sent you the requested email. As for the New Potato Caboose band name, I have alerted band member John Trupp about the posted thread. Maybe he will respond and tell us how the name came about. Strange thing though: aren't cabooses in the back. I always thought you were supposed to wear...
