the D12 is good for two things. The RE20 is good on everything. It's like buying several microphones at the same time.

Oktava basket.

They remove one layer of the two later mesh. I would buy the basket from Michael Joly, because it already has the modifications that you intended to do, you are obviously very keep on modifying it.

80% of what's wrong with these organs can be fixed with no parts, they have plug in connectors inside that go goofy. Usually some Deoxit, some re soldering, and a few well placed wacks can get them going. They have "vintage caps" that leave behind lots of residue to show they've blown. I used to gig...

Lomo or "Lomo"

It's a "Lomo" capsule, made by a small Russian company called RTT. It's an actual Lomo product, but a repro. It's still cool! Don't get me wrong, just wanted to clear up that Lomo never made anything for the Oktava 012 body. Also the Oktava "Lomo" 102 isn't a Lomo either, it's a copy of the 19A21 ca...

MP

Yes, the ART MP gets kicked around the studio floor. Don't forget we owe ART a THANK YOU for making the FIRST affordable mic preamp of the modern age, probably 10 years ago. So first I will say why I like the Tube MP: It makes a great bass DI I use it as a reamp box It's got tones of gain and I use ...

Nico Case

I heard her sing into a SM58 through a marginal house PA in a club in Seattle in 2000, and it sounded amazing, I think the real secret here is her amazing voice and she could sing through anything into anything.

pedals

The best thing about pedals is they can suck good. Some of my favorite pedals are the sucky ones that make too much noise. I'd like to mention distortion pedals for now. I have gone through them all. The RAT, the RATII, the vintage MXR, the new MXR, the vintage TUBE SCREAMER, the new Tube Screamer, ...

going the extra inch

I had a 1" 8 track Otari 7800 for years. It was indeed a Viking. You may consider the more common Otari 1/2 inch 8, or one of the other 1/2 inches for this reason as well: You are probably looking for a "tape" sound, and the limitations of these give this effect. You want to hear tape compession and...

cheap gear

I wanna talk to Samson!!! Fly me to the moon like that chick Alice Cramdon (get it?? Dave Chapelle? Half Baked?? ahh forget it) Anyway, I love cheap consumer level gear, and Samson gear has been shockingly bad. Maybe there's a thing or two out there that's ok, but in general, a disappointment. I own...

your not screwed, you're investing for the long term

you're not really screwed. I'd give you $20 for it as it sits, then your break even. Or do what I do, put it in your garage for a few years, and then sell it for a lot more on eBay later. Second tier gear is going UP UP UP, and will continue to as people realize that it can be rather cool too. It's ...

Mess Age of the Message

I actually want to extend my apology to Brian as well. I believe he took my comments a little too much to heart and that was partially to blame for his outraged replies. I would like to assure him that I'm not as bad a person as he thinks I am, and believe that he is at heart a good person. I do bel...

I am really done answering to Brian's personal attacks, it stops here. But I would like to mention that particle board cabs are not a "cost cutting" feature. They were used in speaker design as far back as the 50's when particle board was more expensive then hard woods, and they've been used for the...

thanks for the kick in the balls, Brian

I did clearly state that I wasn't out to change anyone's mind and I was giving an OPINION to open peoples mind. I was not insulting "everyone" on tape op. Other people are also expressing they OPINION, the person asking the question asked for OPINIONS. As for people never throwing away quality gear,...

Sorry, I was confusing the silk with paper, it sure looks paper-y, my bad. However I don't want to distract from my major point, that like in the guitar world, and preamp world may of the inovations of the last 35 years are not imporvements. This includes metal tweeters (of which I honestly haven't ...
