I'm thinking of buying an Apogee Duet 2, and I am running Lion now. According to the Apogee website, it is still in beta now. Does anyone have any recommendations? Should I wait?

I don't mean to get all academic here, but I would like to point out that the way the OP framed his question, and many of the responses, are really steeped in either expressivist or cognitivist views about writing (in this case, music). By expressivist I am talking about the focus on the concept of ...

Girls "Album"

What a great album. I know people it will say it is some hipster bullshit, but there are some great songs, and it reminds me of the best of SF fun and fucked up culture....there are some great videos too, for "Lust for Life" and "Hellhole Ratrace" plus "Morninglight" a shoegazer redux track

I apologize if this has been posted before. An interesting look at Lou Barlow's recording process for his new album (not sure if it has come out yet). Lots of cool studio stuff

I'm still not entirely sure what a "dinner club" is...are these "jazz" musicians you are booking? The whole thing makes me queasy but good on your for believing in yourself.

Grouper "Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill"

I really love this album, it reminds me of Pygmalion by Slowdive. Anyone know about how this was recorded?

The 'zine thing is incredibly lame, though.

SY have always been a pretty calculated band, even in their "art student" incarnation. I don't know, I still think the idea that "underground" bands are supposed to be anti-careerist/success is kind of communist and dull.

I actually think those could be pretty cool...I think the whole anti-commercial aspect of punk was always pretty stupid anyway. The Clash were never anti-commercial, they played stadiums and were a manufactured group to begin with. That doesn't mean their music wasn't awesome though.

This brings up a question I have always wondered about. I have "boughten" several mics over ebay (an SM81 comes to mind) where I was never quite convinced that the thing was working as well as it should. How can you test a mic (other than just using your ears, I know) to see whether it is functionin...

In Ableton Live you can "play" midi instruments using the computer keyboard, which is kind of limited but is a lot easier than carrying around a midi controller.

I'm sure someone will be quick to jump in with the specifics, but forgive me for not remembering which came first, the chicken or the egg, but I don't think much of New Order's vocals either.. Aren't they pretty much the same band but the guitarist took over the mic when the original singer died? B...
