Re: Space Echo plus expression pedal

Sorry dudes, I'll try to get some video up for you if I can finagle it.
It is an RE-301 by the way "Chorus Echo" with the control pedal jack.

The chorus is sick on this thing too, by the way. Andy Summers sick...

Re: Space Echo plus expression pedal

Yeah, exactly, delay time, with associated pitch change until you settle on a speed. Plus speed-related "fidelity" changes too, slower speeds, murkier highs, etc. It's beautifully chaotic. Just a simple cheapo moog passive expression pedal directly controlling the motor, so great. I dig Mary Halvors...

Space Echo plus expression pedal

Hi there, have not logged into this forum in a long time, I gave away a ton of my analog gear when I moved in 2020, now getting myself used to arguing with a computer when it's time to record, instead of cleaning tape machines like I'm accustomed to. BUT! Finally got an expression pedal to control m...

Space Echo Remote Pedal?

Can I use just any old expression pedal with the Re-301? The 1979 manual says use the "FV-2 Volume pedal" but I don't have one of those. I'd love to pick up some silly keyboard expression pedal to sweep the repeat rate with my foot whilst at mix position. Isn't that what it's for? I wouldn't be aski...

forget RMS. don't even think about it. it means nothing. the shortcut is just using your ears. they work great for this. anything with super loud bass (or sustained low mids) is gonna read a high RMS. means nothing as far as loudness. anything that's super bright/lots of high mids is gonna sound lo...

There's a guy in Rochester I used to know named Bruce Campbell who might be able to get that thing going. He opened something called "East End Audio" in the - you guessed it - East End neighborhood. If that doesn't work for you, I know that Mike Finck in Syracuse can get it working. He's working out...

Wanted to post a quick follow up on this thread. I tried a modified PZM for a week or so, and then ultimately ended up throwing up a basic DBX omni measurement mic that comes with their "driverack" digital PA controller. Thanks for that suggestion, it is a significant improvement in the chamber mix,...

Yeah, I'm sold on the full range mic idea now. EQ'ing the send makes good sense too, in terms of versatility per song/instrument selection. Looking forward to getting it all set up nice. Although, even with it set up not-so nice, it still kicks ass just to have a real space! Messing with tiles and m...

Thanks Nick, that's exactly what I found too, that the humidity changes the response dramatically from day to day. I have a dehumidifier running down in there now trying to keep it at a stable 40%, but then I have to remember to shut the damn thing off when it's time to make the reverb! I think I'll...

Chamber Mic Choices

Anyone have a recommendation for a preferred chamber mic. I threw up a cheap old dynamic I have laying around, but it has too much self-noise. I wanted to put up something I could leave down there and forget about. Also I wanted to shortcut having to roll off highs and lows on the reverb by using a ...

This is greatly reassuring. Thanks Nick, Gregg, David, et al. We have a lot of gobos made expressly for this purpose, and the flooring is over a garage space that could take some more insulation, and also the option to tile the surface below that. It's a solid, solid hardwood tongue and groove, but ...

Last year Larry or somebody else on here gave me the right answer to that question; crack open an 8-track cassette and use that tape. That is the magic bullet for space echos. Screw ebay. Old 8-tracks are free on craigslist every day someone cleans out a basement.

Works like a charm.

I'm a little crabby as the 90% humidity and 90 degrees are brutal today, but I'll go ahead and assume that taking the time to post a reply means that Nick's intention is to be helpful, so here goes: 1. Lease agreement prohibited floating floors or otherwise messing with the hardwood tongue and groov...

Drum isolation/riser materials

Hi, just finished 98% of the move and build to a new bigger space and spent spent spent on room treatment for three live rooms of medium size and one control room. So with no more budget to play with, I humbly seek the tape-op wisdom on one remaining job: decoupling drum kits from the room. I was th...
