The main thing I found on these builds is tripple check placement before soldering in the component! 47 looks a LOT lile 47k after squinting for 3 hours while stuffing the board. Also if it's passin signal you're 7/8 there...hell if it does the q-bias calibration ok you have a compressor just not on...

I hadta fix the cluster-fuck of a wiring job that was done on it. I also got some flux remover and defluxed the bottom of the pcb's since a bunch of old timers (and new timers) reference that in several posts I found on the internet. I also found some shorts on the ratio board because of the half as...

Yeah I reflowed all the solder joints on the ratio board and was able to get quite a bit off there. Geez. Anyway, no difference...still scratching my head.

If all the other calibration steps worked - especially the meter one, wouldn't the problem just about HAVE to be on the ratio board?

So - on the ratio board at the top where all the wires attach (they were soldered) it appears there's a large drop of solder attaching one of the wires to the resistor beneath it - is this normal?!?! Sorry I can't find anything regarding this with a search over there and before I clean it up just wa...

I'll check on the audio. I assumed it was since the meter does move when I apply a tone - maybe I shouldn't assume that! I did post it over there a bit ago just did over here as well since I'm trying like hell to get this thing working so I can start on the other 3! BTW that's me ordering all those ...

Sorry - I meant the wire jumper from pad 22 to ground was what I was removing. The actual jumper is in the position away from the side of the pcb towards the middle side of the pcb which should be right I think? Trying to follow the video as closely as possible. When I go to meter mode I use the +4 ...

Hairball rev-d gain reduction meter calibration anyone?

Hi all - just finished up fixing a hairball rev-d I sent off to someone here to get wired up, calibrated and finished. It did not go well so I'm trying to fix it. Started the calibration per the videos and the q-bias went fine, as did the meter tracking. My problem comes when I'm trying to do the ga...

HAirball REV-D bluestripe

Well I just ordered 3 more of the rev d's. Got the mouser orders in yesterday so I'll now have 3.5 1176's as soon as I find someone to build them for me. May try it myself - I dunno....

Mike at Hairball should have a wiring diagram for Rev D up within a week or two. I recently posted one on Prodigy Pro that is close, and specified the three things that are wrong or confusing about it. Philo Cool - that may help a bit! Stared at it some more last night, but that was about all I did...

I dunno, I have a spitload of them but want more - although eq's are what I really need more of. I like the stuff I've built so far and REALLY get into building it - you get a kind of "zen" thing happening and lose track of time...lol but I'd really like some more organized instructions I guess is a...

Yeah, I built 8 SCA N72's and 2 of their A-12's pre's (but sold the A12's), recapped a 416b (which doesn't count as building i don't guess). But I was at least intelligent enuff to figure out how to use my scope to bias them so I'm not a *complete* noob but noob enuff to not understand the simplest ...

Well I went and bought a rev-d 1176 from hairball but after looking around the DIY site at how they berate people for asking questions I think I'm gonna mothball this on a shelf and just buy used ones off of evilbay as they become available. Sucks too cause I really wanted to build four of these - I...

The hairball stuff has the cases for their 1176's included in the price-just bought one. Parusha prolly has la2a cases I'd bet.
