Speaker placement & acoustic treatment in a loft

Hello there, I'm mixing on Focal CMS 50s (planning on getting the CMS sub in the near future) and moving from a small mix room to a 700 square foot loft space with roughly 12-13ft wood celings. I have 4 DIY roxul safe and sound absorber panels (4ft X 2ft), a wooden desk, a rug and iso Acoustic stand...

Upgrading from Behringer Truth B2030As

I have been using these Behringer monitors for the past few years and still have no luck learning how they translate.

I don't have much $ so would upgrading to something like the KRK Rockits be that much of an improvement?

Sincerely,
Todd

A good trick is to pretend your biting into an apple (or pretend to yawn) as it raises the top of your mouth creating a larger resonance space. Smiling also works.

This stuff is awesome. Is it your band? Check out what I just posted: http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=63698&highlight= Cool track, have you also been watching Twin Peaks lately? It would be cool to hear it played by an ensemble. Yeah I play mandolin and sing. These 2 songs are for a ...

Speaking as a musician and music lover, I enjoyed it. Very hectic! Can't really offer much in the way of critiquing the recording. I like the contrast of the doll voice with the manic, violent instrumentation. Thanks, glad you enjoy. For even more contrast, here's a dreamy song from the same sessio...

Bose XM-6 mixer

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with old Bose mixers? I can't seem to find any info on the internet about them.

My friend has an old Bose XM-6 in very good condition and we're thinking of possibly using some of the mic pres on it for recording.

Any thoughts?

How did you set it up? mackie 800r with ADAT? Were you able to monitor the extra inputs in cuemix?

Motu 8pre + 828mk1 firewire

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience using a Motu 8pre and a 828mk1 at the same time? Can I use the 8pre as the master and the 828 as the slave and record up to 16 inputs?

I'll be recording into Digital Performer 4.6.

:)

Re: Calibrating playback levels

Any tips/tricks/articles for setting up my studios playback monitoring levels? I'm using Sonar, monitoring through a Delta 66 into a Mackie VLZ 1402 feeding an Adcom 535L power amp, driving several pair of speakers controlled by a speaker switch. Is there a reason your running your speakers through...

Re: has anyone used the K stereo plugin?

http://www.algorithmix.com/ http://www.algorithmix.com/en/kstereo.htm wondering what you guys think of such a plugin. Seems neat, I use DP so I can't run the VST demo. If you can, I would give the demo a shot and share your findings. I find these kind of plug-ins more interesting than simulations o...

I would try using a metronome during rehearsal/preproduction. You be surprised at how much it helps, much more then just telling your drummer to "get their shit together". After running the song to a click a few times I generally find it fixes little timing problems for everyone in the band. Just fi...

Has this session already happened? If not... You mentioned earlier that you are recording drums and cello in the same room... is this completely necissary? From the mics you mentioned earlier I would use the Beyers for the cello (body or speaker) but I would just as easily use them for drums... I g...

Mic the cello, SRM450s sound like utter shit. This is just wrong. SRM450's are a very effective great sounding little PA speaker. "utter shit" compared to what? VDOSC? Meyersound? Peavey? Hate to go OT like this, but jeez....I've played through a LOT of PA speakers and the little 450 always pleases...

Don't mic it too close. Back off 3 or 5 feet, that way one good mic will get both the horn and the woof. If the room sounds good, and you have figure 8 pattern, use that. BUT, I'd mic the cello itself, not the speaker as everyone else suggests. The SRM 450 has a pass through XLR, so you could take ...
