We had an issue with an MBOX unit that was horribly distorting when it was first installed on an Intel Mac. I found some help on the Digi website that tells you to just trash the preferences and reboot. Sounds dumb but it worked for me and the thing has been perfect ever since. "Quit out of all open...

Ok, I have nothing useful to add, and you've clearly been around a lot longer than me by your post count so I'm sure you've heard this before - but "Knights Who Say Neve" is the most awesome username ever.

:D Sorry, had to post that!

Kids *prefer* the sizzle of MP3s...

I didn't see this story on here so I thought I'd post it. A prof at Stanford has been doing a study over a number of years studying people's preferences in audio quality - and shockingly - the crap sound of 128kbps MP3s is preferred. http://i.gizmodo.com/5166649/ipods-and-young-people-have-utterly-d...

although i totally break this rule and do still record pretty much everything while i'm figuring out the drum parts... Yeah, I'm guilty of breaking my own rules too - for me it's guitar solos. Similar to the bass thing, I tend to play a bazillion takes of the solo while I figure out what works and ...

I'm always interested in process so I'll share a few points: - Definitely first make sure that there isn't anything I can use as an excuse to not do something (ie. make sure everything is all hooked up and ready to go, easily accessible, etc.) - if you can get distracted, you will (at least I will.....

unfortunately not this year, but thought I'd reply to say howdy since I think game folks are few and far between on here.

I'd say that agreeing with "rockband as an underground promo method" being valid is horse puckey but that would be giving the "majors still trying to look underground" game away. Sorry - yeah it's definitely not an underground promo technique... it was just meant as an illustration of how drastical...

Maybe a bit late to this thread... but yeah I think everyone really needs to just come to terms with the fact that the industry as we know it is dead. Like there is seriously no chance of it ever being "fixed" in the way that people are talking about. As a few others have mentioned: - The internet m...

Something we use as a 'pseudo' RAID is just a script that runs daily and automatically backs up anything that's new/changed onto a secondary backup HD, you could set it to delete things that no longer exist. Simple alternative for those without a RAID controller - useful way to keep a regular backup...

I use my SM7 for just about everything and love it. I think the key is having a good preamp with lots of gain so you can make it work in whatever situation... I use it on my guitar amp, kick drum, vocals (bumping the midrange switch on the back is nicer for vocals I find...). The only thing I didn't...

Well, besides getting rid of fluorescents and dimmers - here's a simple fix... If it's possible (like say with a lamp) - just point the amp or even simpler, turn your body away from it so that your pickups aren't pointing at the lamp. I have a lamp with a CFL in it (green energy and all that...) and...

Well, you could export your sessions in Cubase as an OMF and then import them in Logic. It won't retain everything but should have most stuff. The really simple solution: bounce your tracks out from 0 and re-start in Logic. Solo the track you want to export, and then select the range you want to exp...

Yeah, honestly, Peak is the most disgracefully flaky program, especially for something that costs 600+ bucks...it boggles the mind. I suppose since it's the only 'pro' option out there they've got the market cornered.

At 79 bucks switching to this is a no brainer. It can't be WORSE than Peak.

You might consider it cheating, but get your singers to do multiple takes and layer them on top of each other. You can also 'cheat' and do some subtle pitch and time shifting to keep doubling up. Add a bit of reverb at the end, and you can turn even a few people into a huge crowd this way, and will ...
