Would 65,536 (2^16) 16 bits chunks fit in 32 bit sized container?danatkorg wrote:Great article on Dan Garcia's custom console!
There's one basic binary math error, however. 16 bits + 16 bits = 17 bits, not 32. That makes a big difference when you're talking about digital summing.

I guess I should mention I got excited when I saw that there was an article on BM/DM on the cover, and definitely enjoyed the article. The accessibility of the article kind of made that jab at keyboards-metal seem kind of snobbish to me. I have also probably lost my sense of humor about rigid opinio...

Other recordings to check out
I sort of thought that it was absurd that there was black metal purism in a Tape Op article. I associate that kind of attitude with an implicit resentment of the popularization of black metal. I guess it looks seems really metal to some people to be crotchety about this, I just think it's kind of st...

Which Power Supply for re-appropriated Leslie Motor?
I tore a Leslie-type unit out of a 70s solid-state Conn organ a while back, and just recently gave it a home. I am trying to find the right power supply for the motor. The unit consists of a shaped, hard Styrofoam wheel and an 8" speaker. The label on the back details maintenance instructions, and s...

Practice Amp Gone Tea Kettle!
I have this crappy Crate 60W solid state practice amp from the early or mid 90s that I use to record sometimes. It makes these out-of-control "whistling" sounds that might come from R2D2 if you gave opened it up and poured hot solder inside. :( Upon striking a varying number of times, it behaves nor...

repairing a broken oktava mk12
I know essentially nothing about repairing microphones, but it occurred to me that I could buy a replacement capsule. It seems to me that the capsule is the likeliest culprit. I have a friend who owns an AT pencil mic, and I was thinking I could try using the capsule on that microphone in order to s...
