I disagree. I think you should just have the vocals going in that section. Sounds great that way.

I think that the vocals could be the tiniest bit louder in this newest mix. Just the tiniest bit.

But, man is this song awesome.

Yeah, I suppose I'd have enough money to get myself both... I'll surely be getting the FirePod first, though.

Thanks for all your advice, guys, and thanks for ignoring the fact that this thread should actually be under Gear Talk rather than Recording Techniques.

Just to clarify: I guess I sort of mislead you guys when I said "price isn't an issue". I basically just meant that price wasn't an issue when it came to the two units I initially brought up. I just meant there was no need to go "Yeah, the 688 is cheaper, do that" because I could afford either. No, ...

Very true, very true. Man, everyone's making convincing arguments here.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't just cave and get a Firepod, bouncing to cassette if I need to.

This 238 is most intriguing... I suppose I just need to find a cheap, decent mixer to go along with it.

And the nice thing is that once I have this mixer, I can buy a Firepod later and enjoy both the analog and digital words.

Most intriguing indeed.

History: About 4-5 years of recording with other people's equipment; I'm actually only in my senior year of high school. Basically, I've been in lots of bands with lots of rich assholes whose parents will buy them anything, which leads to a lot of "Hey, I got a 24-channel Yamaha desk! I don't know h...

IS ANALOG BETTER THAN DIGITAL?

Just kidding, I know better than that. Seriously, though, I am sort of wondering whether to go with analog or digital in this specific instance. Basically, I now have enough money, I think, to buy some decent enough equipment to record my own stuff, as well as my bands' (or even friends' bands') stu...

If you don't have time to track straight to the 2", I'd say that at the very least the mixdowns should hit tape. Honestly, just hit the tape as hard as possible.

On the other hand, the Kevin Shields type approach of making massive chords by recording 10 tracks of one note each (different note each time) is very interesting and lends itself to a different sound than you can get just with a couple of tracks of guitar. Just for the record, that didn't happen ....

Jaguar/Mustang. They sound a lot different from SGs, but you can get all sorts of great sounds from them. On top of that, they look cooler, have a nice trem system, and will make girls in American Apparel shirts sleep with you.

How mad at the engineer should I be?

Hey guys. So I've been playing bass in this thrashy type of punk band for the past couple months. We're putting out a 7" split with another band, who are good friends of ours, in a few weeks. I got the masters back from the engineer at the end of November, but didn't think about posting them here un...
