Re: Bass Cab gigging and recording questions

I checked the manual for the GK400rb. it discourages using multiple 4 ohm speakers, but I'm not precisely sure why. It might work, but not as efficiently. it puts out 125 watts at 8 ohms and 200 at 4 ohms. Alternately, there's several different models of the 400rb, but none of them do more than 280 ...

Re: What decent mics does Radio Shack have today?

I got a CB mic for 3$ that I rewired. The frequency response is similar to a shure green bullet mic . Prolly also doubles as a speaker. Haven't used it on anything yet, but what the heck. pretty close to http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F008%5F009%5F005...

Re: Tapeop Song Creation PARTY! Song BATTLE!

I'm working on a track, but I really don't know what I'm going to do with it. I was thinking of writing a tribute to people who really shouldn't own recording setups but do (myself included). It's good practice at cutting loops from songs and using them though. In any case, I'll be awhile before I p...

Re: The Darkness: WTF?

I also dislike Tenacious D and like the Darkness single. Tenacious D has the spirit right though. The Darkness is just having fun with it. I think part of the reason why I like the single is because of how much more fun it is than 90% of the other post-alternative modern rock programming out there. ...

Re: How do the big studios do it?

Scodiddly, you scare me sometimes. I actually tried to answer "how do I record for under 99$" question. I'm trying to get a computer job right now, but wish to heaven that I'd be able to start a small studio and record people for a living. I got as far writing a buisiness plan for starting said stud...

Re: How do the big studios do it?

Great topic. This hits on so many issues of 21st century society, and in particular that inside of the US. We're dealing with downsizing, the secondary effects of the downward price trend of technology, the 'Wal-Mart-ization" of society, the dead-ends that the modern music industry are running into,...

Re: nady sp-5. total poopie or decent budget mic?

could be useful for a drummer who tends to smack the mics. Alternately, sometimes the "cheap mic sound" is precisely what the track needs. Unlikely, but possible. Heck, post a mic review. I want to know exactly how bad a bottom rung dynamic sounds next to a sm57 or (god forbid) an sm7. Especially th...

Re: Odd kick drum micing technique sought

if you're really dealing with a "caustic, total-improv, entirely in-the-momemt, no-songs, no-practicing-allowed, let's-see-how-destructive-and-annoying-we-can-be-before-they-stop-booking-us, pshycho-freak-out thing", then recording coherance is very possibly a secondary goal. I'm in an ensemble of t...

Re: My electric drum story

The question to me is how to use v-drums and such. I think of the success of people with electric drums, I think of Roy Wooten and his synth-axe drumitar (which he gets sounding pretty good, even if it's in a fusion-jazz-bluegrass-etc ensemble), and I'm pretty sure that there's a way to do it well, ...

Re: P & J basses... Mexican (MIM)... what's the differen

I'm primarily a bass player (though still a pianist at heart), so here's my view of things. In my experience the differences only really become apparent once you compare models next to each other. I sat down with a pile of fender basses and ended up buying a higher end Active Jazz, for it's neat com...

Re: My Favorite things to record...

Am I the only person who smiles every time I hear the Vibraslap hits on Cake's first album? I'd record the American Vibraslap Enthusiast's Annual convention given half a chance. Of course, I'd also be quite mad by the end of it all. And the sound of a beautiful girl undressing would probably be sort...

Re: splitting a guitar signal without the hum

I've been using a Z-Vex Super-Hard-On to do pre-amplifier splitting. I didn't know it had two outputs before I bought it (It's not really on the product feature list), but it seems to work pretty well, even with the pedal off.

I don't think that different bodies are going to cause a significant problem. It might not be as well matched as a normal factory matched pair, but it should be really close. Of course, I'll defer to one of the more knowledgable tech-heads around here when they pipe up. The question I would be askin...

Re: i love noise

http://www.ptpart.co.uk/colors.htm White noise has constant power over a range. My understanding is that it means that there is the same power between 50-100 hz as between 2000-2050hz as 20000-20050hz. Matched against the fletcher-munson hearing curve the result is a sharp noise with percieved loudn...
