I've used the 990's for about 4 years now. My studio situation has been in flux and I needed something that I could at least get preliminary mixes on whether I was in my bedroom or at the park waiting for my kids. I honestly never imagined that I'd be able to get as successfully accurate mixes from...

Beyerdynamic DT880 vs DT990 for MIXING

Hey all, long time, no post... A good part of my mixing and editing is done at my church office where noise needs to be under control. I don't get to spend too much time mixing on my nearfields (although I always make sure to reference them before the final mix is done), so I need some good headphon...

Awesome, thank you guys so much for the replies! I understood what the fusion drive was described as, but wasn't sure how that would react with audio files and recording.

Will be sure to upgrade the RAM and CPU first. Thanks again!

Upgrading iMac; Processor/RAM/HD Needs

Hey all, it's been a while since I've been on here. My trust iMac that I purchased in the fall of 2008 seems to have run its course. Back then the max stats for the 20" were the 2.66 GHz processor and 4 GB RAM. Over the years it has served me well, but it's time to upgrade. For starters, I pretty mu...

Mainstage Help. URGENT!

Hello All, It's been quite a while since I've posted, but I'm in need of some urgent help regarding Mainstage. Lately I've been using it at church as guitar amps to help cut down on stage volume. It's been a dream come true. In my current setup I run out of the pedalboard and into a channel on my Fo...

I got it! Because I'm using the original RCA cable it was a 1 conductor shielded cable. Went red cable to pin 2, and shielded cable to pin 3 (essentially black and red, + and -), and then removed the link that was between 1 and 3. This has removed about 90% of the noise. Reading those docs definitel...

Looked more into the Lin-Ins on my monitors and they're Balanced as well so RCA to 1/4" TS definitely won't work. The Rane doc has multiple diagrams for basically any type of connection you can think of so I'm going to give those a whirl.

Once I read the Jensen and Rane docs I'll try some stuff out. The Line-Ins are just 1/4" ins as opposed to XLR. Why this doesn't make sense to me is that I'm using XLR connectors that were connected to TS connectors previously. I had an interface with Line-Outs and went from there to the monitors (1...

RCA to XLR question

Hey all. Been a while since I've posted, and I'm not quite sure if this is the correct place to post this, but since I'm building my own cables I guess DIY would be appropriate. I have a TV that has audio outputs in RCA, and I want to hook up a pair of monitors to the tv because the speakers on it a...

My plan is to just work with what I've got right now, get experience, try everything as many things out as I possibly can, and then figure out how I want my system to run. I guess the best thing for me to do is sit in on a session somewhere that they mix OTB, and maybe see if I can get some experie...

Re: Ok

I wasn't going to say anything at all since I don't have tons of experience with consoles myself but then I saw that you are using an imac. Keep in mind that your i/o options are rather limited on those things. You can't put in any sort of PCI card or anything fancy like that. So to get your audio ...

I am currently using Logic 9. However, I would like to try and eventually be using Cubase 5, and then later down the road step up to Nuendo. But for now, it's Logic 9. I'm starting to understand more about the signal flow of it now that I've looked at the mixer in Logic and have tried to picture it ...

SCA DIY Pres

I am extremely interested in these pieces of gear. Have heard nothing but great things about them, and may be a future purchase for when I'm able to really get things going with my studio. I love doing electrical work, but I've never tackled anything like a circuit board. I'm pretty good with a sold...

I was just asking more out of curiosity than anything if those options would work. Mixing otb is definitely an option. I've never tried it and don't really know much about signal flow, routing, the specifics of it, but its something I want to learn more about. Throw whatever you can at me!
